Looks like all the other exhaust manifolds. I think you should spend your money on something that will make a performance increase. For the same price you could buy a set of RV275 and get a 40hp/80fttq increase in power and maybe 1-2mpg. The manifold will do basically nothing for performance.
 
I am looking at RV275s. But my ex. manifold is starting to develop cracks at the first 2 cylinders.



YUP - for sure, the best RV 275's in the world won't do much to help a cracked exhaust manifold! :-laf:-laf



Pretty hard sometimes, to get a straight answer to a simple question, as much as other guys really DO want to help... ;)
 
I suppose he thought it was purely a performance question. There's alot of folks out there who get convinced by what an advertisement says. I have a buddy with an '00 with a 60 horse chip who was looking at one of those highfalutin' intake manifolds thinking it'd double is HP or something. Luckily I set him straight.
 
You certainly have the right idea in asking for guys with direct experience with the manifold you are interested in - a picture, or even hands-on with some of these can be very deceiving - it's not so much the appearance of the manifold, but the quality of the metal used in casting it, and it's resistance to hot/cold expansion and shrinkage. Even at that, the design and various reinforcements and cast gussets can cause uneven hot spots and distortion failure in otherwise good cast metals.



Long term, real-life experience is certainly the best test...
 
Gary, that looks like the manifold that I bought for my truck a while back. The price is the same anyway. It surely did help my truck's performance a bunch. The old OEM manifold came off in 3 pieces as they fell to the ground taking them off the truck :)


I never saw it personally before it was bolted on. My son had the truck and I had it drop shipped to his address and he put it on. His only comment was, "it ain't polished on the inside anymore than the OEM is. " And, it was put together with a slight offset angle which caused him to have to use a long drift bar to twist it slightly to make it line up on the engine block. "


Other than that, it works just fine. He installed RV275s and the new injection pump at the same time, so can't compare performance for just the manifold by itself.

My signature shows the upgrade stuff he did for me while he had it in his possession. I thought I got a good exchange, he "borrowed the truck to use for six months" , and brought it back home to me with all those goodies stuck on it. Only downside was my credit card got a lot heavier :) paying for the parts.
 
From a performance standpoint don't expect much. As for a better replacement part,I think it would be cost effective to install an upgraded manifold. I installed mine from ATS and of course while on the phone ordering,the salesman suggested for ultimate power gains,go with our ATS intake also. Bolted both on only noticed a very,very slight increase in turbo spool-up but no increase in boost pressure :confused:#@$%!Wish I had waited for Stefan's new Intake ... far superior in designIMO!!!:{
 
My comment on "increased my performance" was a bit tongue in cheek. As the old manifold has a 1/4" wide crack in it I'm told.

With a good manifold on it now, the boost comes up a lot quicker than it did before.
 
but you still wouldn't see any increase in boost pressure... a reduction in restriction yields a reduction in boost



Exactly. My peak boost dropped 5psi, and got a slight reduction in turbo lag. The stocker had shrunk enough to bend all but 2 bolts, so that is why I bought the ATS.



I didn't port match the manifold to the turbo flange. The holes in the manifold are a bit smaller, and was hoping it might increase the velocity of the gases hitting the turbine to help spool-up.
 
I got an ATS manifold from some company out in Utah back in the spring, had free shipping on it and with a new set of gaskets delivered to my door was around $420. I was going to get RV275's but figured I should take care of the weak links first. I like the ATS, and I got the pyro mounted pre turbo now as it has a place drilled out for one.
 
RV275s are Bosch injectors that will up the fuel flow a tad bit. The RV part of the name is because they are used in a lot of RV rigs and produce about 275 hp in that application. With my setup, they are doing about 300 hp with my calibrated "seat of the pants" feel. :)
 
I have the 3 piece exhaust manifold and I have 342 HP at the wheels. Truck is 8 yrs old and that is how old the exhaust manifold is. . no problems and I tow heavy in mountain terrain and desert.

Best to to the weak links first before adding power like transmission upgrades.
 
Do a Google search on exh. mfld. mine was cracked just a little at the turbo mtg. area. When I replaced it Ifound it cracked all the way around and into the turbo mtg. flange. Ifound a pulse replacement for less than three hundred dollars. Seems to work okay and helps the heat problem.
