If that is about 750 cruising at 70 then that should be normal.

I see about the same cruising down flat land If I go up any sort of hill it jumps about a hundred and fifty degrees. I thought the weird part on my particular (Westach) guage is that the temps will rise/fall very quick. If I push in the clutch and let it idle at that speed the temps will reach about 350 about the same time the tach says 800.

But short answer version is 6 to 8 cruising

and if you stick your foot in it long enough it will reach 11 on a stock rig (my rig anyway)

Hope this helps

I installed the probe in the exast elbow, I have been reading the post and here's the reason, the exast manifold is spilt if you put the probe in the exast manifold your reading the temp on half your engine. if you have a nozzel failing in the front three cylinder's you wont pick it up, I thought about putting three in but that's gona have to do for now, sound's like i can hear the wife talking. :D Harv

Checked mine yesterday on the freeway:

Level ground, no headwind, 70mph = 600-650

Keep in mind that I have ditched the muffler, that may have something to do with it. I didn't get gauged until after I lost the muffler so I can't compare with/without.

Not sure how your thermocouple works but with the Westach the wire junction connection is calibrated to read accurate at 75 degrees, therefore any temp plus or minus the 75 (at the junction) will slightly throw off the reading. I have my junction inside the cab to help avoid temp extremes.

Ex Temp

marksmith this one don't change real fast, it seems to come down to 500 degrees at a stop then if you put it in park a min or two down to 350, on the trottle it move's right on up.

rblomquist I think you are right the ex has a big part in the temp, it's just trying to figure out a way to make the better half buy in on new ex system. Harv

hwhite,

Why not just go to an exhaust shop and have your muffler removed or order the replacement pipe from Geno's? It only cost me $50 at the muffler shop.
