What are the STOCK ex. valve springs rated on the 97 12v? I ask this because I keep reading that with ex. brakes you should have the 60 lbs ex. springs. I have had my brake for 3 months now use it daily at almost every stop running loaded or empty. And have had no problems at all. So I am wondering if the upgrade in ex. spring are for the 185 p pump trucks or all p pumps? Am I going to have problems with this or not? If so and I need to upgrade, are changing the springs going to require me to pull the head or is there a special trick I dont know about?

You can use your exhaust brake at lower pressures with the stock springs. If you put the heavier ones in you can run the brake at higher back pressures for more effective braking.

I think the OEM springs are 30lb springs. You don't have to remove the head to change em. Here and here are some posts that'll shed some light on this for ya.

I bought my springs from piers diesel and changed them using the valve spring tool from NAPA.

You might want to consider changing the intake springs also while you're at it. Not much more work and you are ready for the 4,000 GSK.
