Examine this turbo...

Here are a few very fuzzy pics of a turbo we just pulled off of a 6 cylinder John Deere (5. 9L?) You can make out that the nut on the inside is no longer the correct shape. That can't be normal. What could cause this? And the turbo doesn't spin freely as I am used to. We ordered a new one anyway, just curious.

That is a normal part of balancing. NOT a problem.

Correct. I have a turbo apart on my bench as we speak and the nut looks exactly the same. No worries.

What issue caused you to pull the turbo? How does the compressor side look?

This engine is mounted to a large 60hz 3 phase generator and we torn the unit down to take care of some rust. We work on all kinds of equipment and so some things we just don't get a chance to look at very often.



Compressor side looks good and clean.
