exaust brakes

I know this topic has been beat around but, I still do not know which brake to go with. Is there anyone out there who has driven a rig with a pac brake and one with the jacobs. If so is their a difference in the braking ability? I am hearing stories that the way the 03 cams are designed there is a ground spot which keeps the valves open a little longer and this is the reason a few people around do not think their brakes are as good as before. I guess one other question would be is there anyone out there who is not happy with the jacobs brake?

I'm very happy with my Pac. I was unable to distinguish a diffrence in the performance between the two when used on the 03 model. I went with the Pac for compressed air.

I got a great deal from the dealer on my Jacobs. Besides I don't need to give Chrysler any reason to not warranty my truck.

I chose the Jacobs mainly because of the deal I received when i ordered it. However, after having and using it for the past 4 months, I can safely say it is much better in performance than the last one I had on the old 94' CTD I owned. Plus, it was very easy to install with the supurb instructions that came with it!

I'm guessing it's not the brake, but the engine's ECM keeping the fueling going a bit longer. (for emissions?) After a tap of the go pedal, my 94 drops to idle right now. The 03 sort of hangs and comes down slowly. I'm not sure what the electronics of the brakes do, exactly. The 94 settup is a simple on/off switch where the shift pattern used to be in the knob.



I still like driving the old one and miss the noisey button (as my 5 year old calls it) when I'm in the new ride.

I just had a BD Brake installed by Mac's. I was very disappointed. After using an Ebrake every day for the past 100,000 miles, I have a pretty good idea of it's ability. All this thing would do is make a little noise.



They did show me the pressure adjustment knob and told me how to increase pressure. After the 6th adjustment, it felt like my old Ebrake... ... ..... it really worked!



Yesterday, I had the truck back to Mac's for the X Monitor install. (Jury is still out on that one) I asked Mac to check pressure on the brake. He did better than that. He hooked up a big pressure guage and we went for a ride. We could get it up to 58 psi. So, seat of my pants got me close.



I now like my Ebrake on my '03

Elk, I just installed a Jacobs brake on my 03 Dodge. The directions are very clear and the brake works like a charm. The Jacobs brake is designed for the Dodge Cummins. The unit came with a vaccum pump, new drive belt and all hardware needed for installation. I bought the brake from Dodge and installed myself. I paid somewhere around $1,100. It does a great job of slowing my 35 ft. fifth wheel camping trailer. You would probably be happy with any of the brakes. They all do the same thing. Good luck Jim.

Regardless of which co. you go with, look into an inline brake instead of the turbo mounted brake. EGT's get worse with a turbo mounted brake.

Carlton, where are you?



We have been waiting for Carlton to give us the word that the e-brake is approved for the 48re automatic. It has been in testing for about a year it seems, but no word yet. The ECM and 48re are set up for it, and the e-brake makers have made the brake systems work with the ECM and 48re, so all that is needed is approval from DC that it will not void the warranty. So when will we hear?
