I recently did a drive from az to utah back to az. Now i only had 26500 miles on my truck so i decided to be hard on it going up those mountains with an empty 16 foot flat bed trailer there and half loaded trailer on the way back with boxes and a quad in the bed of the truck. I was moving. Now when i was going up mountains i let off at first and then nailed it and my exaust got up to 1500 degrees or so. it stayed there for about 45 sec to a minute cause i assume the truck must be safety rated. So i let go and it finally shifted into fourth. What i'm asking is when do i need to consider letting off if ever. The only mod i have done is straight piped the exaust. Two, why was i not blowing out much black smoke. Thats like my favorite part of hauling *** is to watch all my black smoke come out. Hardly saw any this trip. All in all i think i broke my motor in a little bit on this trip.
Not to mention i got a continueous 11 mpg flooring it almost up every mouintain and passing people on a two lane black top. I would say thats pretty good for the way i was driving it.
