I originally posted this in the regular second gen forum with some wrong information. First off, I'm a first gen guy, but a friend of mine has a 2000, 24 valve second gen with a little over 50,000 miles that he thinks may have a problem. The second gens have a "catch can" under the blow by tube, and his fills up frequently... Too frequently to be considered normal if you ask me. I know they're supposed to be emptied every oil change, but he's had to empty it between oil changes because it fills up and leaks. It's filled up on long trips of a few thousand miles in the past. It runs fine, normal power, fuel milage, etc. just alot of blow-by. Is this normal for a second gen? If not, any ideas on what may be causing it?

I will look on the computer at work and see if there is any technical service bullitins on this, I have heard of this before, but have not actually had any complaints personally. there may be a bullitin on this, I will let you know what I find.

I found a bullitin that applies for this condition, there is a revised brether kit, part # 05093017aa, htis will take about four hours to install, the injection pump and filter housing will have to be removed.

Does he go down steep hills? The motor will pump oil out of the breather on steep down hills. Read this: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73627&highlight=breather

tareynolds does that also apply to 99 I was looking at mine the other day and it looked worse than normal.

I think if you were going to have to pay out of pocket, you would find another way to do it. Someone has a kit that uses the oil fill in the valve cover. Around 45-65 bucks or something like that.

SNOKING

All I did on my truck for the tube is run an elbow and about 8feet of heater hose running down the frame rail to right before the gas tank.

Thanks for the research and the part number, do you have the service bulletin number by any chance? He's talking about going to the dealer for the repair.
