I installed the PowerMax CR on my truck this w/e. It really works great, however, I notice that now I have much higher boost levels.

Prior to the installation (stock) I was getting between 28 and 30 on my boost gauge (after bouncing to about 34 for 1/2 a second, then settling back). Now I'm getting between 37 and 39.

The PowerMax is set to the "econ" program, power level 2, TE level 2, and boost level limit=35.

Now I get sustained 37 to 39 under WOT from 55 mph in high gear (6th) through the rpm range to the governor, topping out at over 90 mph after 6 to 8 seconds of WOT, and boost level approaching about 41 with no sign of settling back. I tested this several times, and verified the boost levels with the PMCR remote which matched my gauge exactly. I verified that the boost limit was set at 35

Is anyone else with this set-up getting these readings?

And will the extra boost pop, or shorten the exspected lifespan of my turbo, assuming no excessive EGT's?

Thanks, Michael

Have you checked your intercooler to make sure you dont have the one with the plastic ends?

If it is not the plastic one then I would not worry about 37 to 39 lbs boost but I will say a new Super B special turbo is a VERY sweet addition to the TST

No, it's the metalic cooler, I'm just worried about my stock turbo getting damaged or not lasting as long as it should from overboost.

Or is 40 O. K. for it as long as I don't get it too hot, say over 1400 deg.

When I had my TST on the stock turbo I set the boost to 35-38 and when towing I would try to not exceed 1250 EGT and when playing around I would hit 1350 and probably the worst thing you can do to your turbo is back out of the throttle too quik and BARK the turbo, if you have not had it happen yet you will know when it happens!

I'm not a hot rodder (dogger as I call them) these motors are just too good to deliberately &*^# them-up.
I'm after extra usable power (without excessive EGT's) for towing through effeicency. Blowing a turbo prematurely is not in my plans...
And no, I certainly don't want to "bark" the turbo. When I'm towing, I use a gental boot

No, that was for the 041/2, and earlier. 05's, and up TST said were electronically controled-so no elbow was necessary or included in the kit.

You need the boost elbow, because TST does boost fooling which puts the electric wastegate virtually useless. It is for 05 and up. You make your wastegate a mechanical one like the older models and plug off the electric solenoid.

An 05' can handle higher egts. 1250 is nothing really. 1400-1500 are fine. 1600 and you're pushing it... I've pushed it... :-laf

05MXDiesel, TST has a newer feature to where you can limit the boost to 35 psi electronically now with no external boost elblow.

And Mikie, no I dont have that problem exceeding over 35psi. If I were you I would not spin the stocker to 40psi for 2 reasons. 1. Overspeeding the stocker is not a good idea and it will shorten the lifespan of the turbo. and 2. The effientcy of the stocker at 40psi is 0. After about 30-32 psi the stock charger is out of its map. So even at 35pounds, youve exceeded its limits. Which is why a Silverbullet is in my future.

Thanks; JRD. That's what I wanted to know. I'll send the TST computer back to them for reprograming as it's supposed to limit boost to 35. I know from reading the articles in TDR that higher pressure means hotter air-not more without the proper upgraded turbo.

Just an update guys; I sent my PMCR in to be checked at TST. Danny (the tech) was good enough to call me, to say that the module checked out OK both on the bench and on a test truck they have.

He said that he was going to send me a new box just to be on the safe side. I recieved it on Friday, and installed it on Saterday. Well that did it, boost is now limited to about 36 psi, of course after bouncing to 37-38 or so for half a second.

TST is a good outfit, I can't say enough about their great customer service and how well there product works (once to the ghost is out of the machine), and how eager they were to make sure I was happy.

And thanks again to all you who responded to my troubles.

Michael
