My 07 5. 9 4x4 has 5800 miles. The truck is producing large amounts of brake dust on the front rims. It takes less than a week before the front rims are completely covered in a dark red dust. It has done this since new.

Anyone else have this issue?

That is common in our 3G trucks. I have heard that upgrading to ceramic pads (big $$$) will reduce this. Til' then, keep your rims rinsed so the dust dosen't stain. .

my 06 will dust up the rims in about 2 weeks but i use the brakes very little and baby the truck to keep the mpgs up. If your hard on the brakes in the city id say 1 week is good between wheel cleanings.

I use 50% simple green and a rim brush from wallmart and it all comes off with ease.

I have already raised this issue, everyone told me it's a normal thing for the 3rd gens. I noticed it more after towing a good-sized load, but WAS into the brakes a lot more than my usual driving. I have about 24K miles or so, just rotated my tires a few days ago, the pads had tons of material/meat to them, so I guess the dust is not a sign of great wear or the need to change them.

Comes off easily at the car wash with plain pressured water. I wash about once a week and have about the same amount of dust each time.

Takes about a week for mine to show a lot of dust , and I am like DBently and try to stay off mine as much as possible.
Car wash usually takes care of the dust, but about every two weeks I have to clean them real well to make sure the mags don't get stained.

I have the same problem with my 2nd gen truck. I bought these liners from a company called brakedustcovers.com. Ive had them on for serveral thousand miles now and they seem to work great.

Compared to my wife's Expedition, my brakes are great! I think the OEM pads are softer material so they give good feel and no squeal. On my 97 I put on some HD Hawk pads. They worked great but made so much noise I took them off.
