Truck downshifts constantly when cruising with little to no load on it, Also seems to stay in 2nd longer then it should when jumping into it like getting on the highway. Pondering that it may be the throttle position sensor but have no ideal how to test or adjust this.

Thanks

Welcome Duffy!

I'd put money on the TPS. I replaced 2 of them before converting to a manual. There are all kind of fixes out there. I would imagine if you do a search on TPS or Throttle Position Sensor you'll have lots of reading. I've tried most of them, all I can remember except putting the pot in line, and it was never fixed until I replaced the TPS.

Thanks for the info i looked up tps post and seen about cleaning the battery terminals and remembered mine were looking bad so i cleaned them and so far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks

Duffy

Mine started doing that around 70,000 miles. I drilled a hole in the throttle position sensor and washed it out with electrical contact cleaner from radio shack and it has been perfect for 50,000 miles.

KMoser: Welcome to the TDR! Glad to have ya!

The TPS has nothing to do with 2-3 shift.

My bet would be the governer pressure sensor is clogged or the gov. solenoid is sticking. .

Not sure how complicated a changeout is, I had my transmission rebuilt a little after I bought my truck, but I had 145k on it, and it was slipping...

Vehicle speed sensor can cause these issues also. . Have you checked for codes?

good luck
