Bob,

The smoke on 5. 12 is WAY down, but there is still a bit of low boost smoke, especially on a hot day at altitude.

Bob.

Your inbox is full. Please PM me with the addy to mail it to, I will send it in. I greatly appreciate the support.

No need to mail it in, just download and do it yourself. Takes about 15 minutes the first time you do it.

You will like the current version over 5. 08. It has less smoke, and less timing rattle. . but it will still smoke at low boost on a hot day in the mountains, and if you're towing and go to a gear at too low of an rpm you will still black out an intersection until you get about 8-10 psi of boost... . but I am much happier with 5. 12.

Thanks Aaron. Yeah, I'm looking for the kind of smoke that comes in handy when some jerk is driving like heck and is in need of a little 'lesson. ' Other than that, I don't want it to be apparent.

I might be able to get away with the addition of 40HP injectors only as long as I watch the EGTs... .

So what happens if you want more power without ANY smoke? Is that even possible? Or do you need to make sure you really open the intake?

Well, I thought I'd bring this thread back to life. I got my Smarty Jr upgraded to the latest software - 5. 12. Loaded it today while in Albuquerque. I thought since I would have a 3 hour drive home, freeway and in town driving, it would be a good test of the software. I loaded up the SW3 since I was not towing anything, I have run the SW3 before when making a trip from Albuquerque.

I still can make some decent amounts of black smoke when in lower boost/lower rpms/lower gears and lower speeds. It does clear fairly well once I get up in boost/higher rpm's/higher gears and higher speeds. I noticed a little smoke coming out of the tailpipe when driving up some of the many grades of 6% and a little greater, so acceleration or more throttle does create some black smoke.

In town driving I can still spray for bugs pretty good, but it is less than before, small-med size cloud for a short distance vrs what I had before in a very large cloud for half a block.

I do like the 'feel' of the new programming, nice and smooth, and my engine is running pretty quiet, my EGT's were down a little more than before as well. I have yet to take a look at the fuel mileage, but I can say that before when I left Albuquerque and filled up, by the time I got home I was down in the gauge to a middle point between the 3/4-7/8 tank mark. This evening when I got home I had not gotten down to the 7/8 mark. So, I think my mileage has increased quite a bit over the old programming. When I fill up I will report the fuel mileage.

I noticed considerably less smoke when I upgraded Smarty Jr from 5. 08 to 5. 12 - still enough to make me get that big goofy smile, but not as bad as before.
