Hello

While I Was in FLA on Vacation in feb. I was looking over the engine Compartment of the 99CTD and I noticed that the # 6 cyl exhaust manifold stud farthest back was broke....
Dang this will be a chore. Any comments or ideas or recommendations. All are Welcome

Thanks
Chris

I was just under the hood of my 99 & noticed that on mine the #1 cylinder has a broken stud. Damn thankful I have a nephew who is a mechanic. I think I'll have him repair it because I know how much of a PITA they are to repair.

So you both tried to insert a new bolt and ran into the broke off bolt? My 2001 has the retainers on the bolts. For years we have talked about bolts backing out before the retainers were added. SNOKING

I have not checked to see if a bolt is in the hole. I will the next time I am at the truck in AUG. I did a search and I saw your posts about the retainers from SNOKING. Thanks

I have done a few for friends and the bolts broken bolts actually came right out. Those manifolds are know to expand and contract enough to break the bolts so the bolts aren't breaking from being overtightened just from side force. You will have to pull the manifold and I would look at a 2 or 3 piece manifold to replace it so you dont have this problem in the future.
