I am considering putting on an AFE intake system and possibly a 4 inch exhaust system. I really don't want to do any other mods to the engine. So my ? is what would the benefit of doing the 4 inch exhaust, or would I be better off just doing the intake?

And if the exhaust is a way to go what is a good system out there?

I would run a AFE stage one intake with the proguard 7. As for exhuast your truck already has 4 inch that is why I sell the aerotubine kit it eliminates the muffler and replaces it with a resonator/ mini muffler. No drone and a nice exhuast note. The modifications won't give you alot more power just alot more efficiency you can click below in my signature to my site and see the parts I speak of.

Starting with the 2004. 5's the stock exhaust is 4" from the turbo back. You may, however, want to consider a better flowing muffler (Donaldson, Nelson, etc. ) with the benefit being potentially lower EGT's. Probably not much help in performance or mileage.

Also, if your not going to do any other mods, the AFE stage 1 is probably not going to give much benifit considering the cost (upwards of $300-$400). Use the stock box with an AFE replacement filter to gain a little better flow (although, from what I have read the stock filter seems to flow pretty well). Again, I don't think most see much better performance or mileage with the drop in or stage one and no other mods, just slightly lower EGT's as I mentioned with the exhuast in my prior post.

I have a price much better than 300-400 ;)

Oo. I just purchased and installed one these MBRP mufflers that Mark is talking about and they sound great. My wife thinks it's a little loud, but when you're in the truck traveling down the road you don't hear it. It has a deep rumble while idling but when you get on it, boy does she sing out loud.

I also have the AFE proGaurd 7 with the torque tube and it really does feel like the engine responds better, I don't mean it adds a ton of power but you can feel the difference.

Hope this make your decision easier, and thanks Mark I love my muffler and test pipe.

no more room in my sig: also coming soon to the south east area one of Gregs DRC Race Systems. When I get it i'll take you guys for a ride.

GRudy,

Take a look at the spec info on the AFE Pro Guard 7. It filters within 1/2 of 1%, which is bascially nothing of a factory paper type filter. The boys over at the Durmamx site had Testand Corp (a filter test company) do a test and the PG7 was the only non paper filter that did a good job at filtering. But the PG7 still flowing lots more air.

OK, but do you have numbers as to how it compares to the BHAF? Inquireing minds want to know :D
