Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Exhaust and transmission temperature

My '99 2500 CTD has a BD X-Monitor and I need to know what the maximum exhaust and transmission temperatures should be. I have searched the forum for the exhaust temperature and could only find information with the pyrometer probe installed in the exaust manifold (pre turbo). My probe is installed in the cast exhaust pipe after the turbo.

Post turbo from what I've read should be no higher that 850* +-... . Seems that reading post turbo though isn't the most accurate location. Pre turbo I try to keep mine no higher than 1150* or so FWIW.

I would consider plugging the post turbo hole and drill and tap it to go in the pre turbo locatoin. I would want to know what the EGT's are at the hottest spot. I have heard that there is a 300-400 degree drop from pre to post turbo location.

I did mine that way, drilled it out, then vacuumed, then applied some grease on my tap to collect as much of the shavings as possible. I cleaned it out afterword and vacuumed again. Been driving it that way for over 70,000 miles.
