Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Exhaust and Warranty issues

I'm thinking about eliminating my muffler and just keeping the resonator. My truck has about 3500 miles on it. Has anyone ever had any warranty issues questioned because they removed the muffler on their truck? I know that the muffler has no effect on anything related to powertrain warranty but I have a lot of warranty left and don't want to get into fighting with the stealer if I need warranty work done.



Also, is it gonna be too loud for my daughter to sleep in her car seat on long trips in the back seat of my quad cab? I don't want a drone that makes it intolerable for her inside the cab.

With no muffler it will be loud. .

I heard a truck this weekend with no muffler. I think the rest of the exhaust was still there but this thing was louder than my truck with my full 4 inch exhaust with straight through muffler.

Did the Geno's Muffler Elimination Kit to mine about a year and half ago... just a touch louder in the cab at highway speeds, but both of my kids sleep like logs with it. Left the resonator on mine, but at idle, it sounds just like our old Cat 9U D6... man I love it Couldn't tell you if I have any quicker spool up or a reduction in EGT's, honestly.



Been into the stealer twice since the elimination for warranty work and resetting for larger tires... not a single question or comment from them about the missing muffler. Hope this helps.

H. H. it will be just slightly louder in cab; no objectionable drone with the resonater left on. Hell, in warmer weather I'll open my rear slider so I can hear it. My older kids and wife never even commented or lost any sleep As far as warranty goes, some dealers may frown on it but I can't see denying any work that is not exhaust related. Mine's only been in once, no comment from dealer. Try to find a local member or chapter, I'm sure there will be all variations of exhaust mods. to "hear" or ride in before you cut. Why would you take a chance with the Dealer If it does not make it any louder, why would you want to do it? If it makes it louder so you can hear it in the cab of the truck, why would you want to do it and keep your child from sleeping? If it makes it louder outside your truck but not inside, what do you care??? your inside your truck? The only positive I can see you coming up with, if it's loud enough maybe you won't be able to hear your wife yell at you because your child can't sleep and she is getting a headache :-laf

Eliminate the muffler, leave the resonator and enjoy life. My stealer told me that it only voided warranty on the pipe from where the muffler was to the tip.



Lowered EGT about 150* while pulling hard. Truck is noisier when you stand outside by the tailpipe. I can't honestly say that it is any louder in the cab with the windows up. Windows down going thru a tunnel, yes it is louder. But, heck, I am probably going to let off the throttle so I can listen to the exhaust brake anyway.



Lose the muffler and while your at it yank the silencer ring. Loud pipes and engines save lives.
