Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Exhaust Brake For Idling?

Ok guys, I've got a couple of problems that are stumping me. I know there's somebody out there that's got either an answer or a theory for the fix.

First, sometimes my Pac-Brake sticks ON! Really embarassing when leaving a light empty and can't go over 10 MPH. The smoke's impressive, though.

Second, sometimes the E brake won't go on. That's spooky, especially when needed.

Last weekend, I took off the E brake, checked it's motility, and lubed the pivot points with Never Sieze. Doesn't appear to be a vacuum supply problem as the brakes never get stiff.

Next is, sometimes the A/C (fan) just quits. Then it just starts blowin' again.

That's it for now.

Thanks in advance.

There is a vacuum solenoid installed just behind your air horn. It has two wire going to it and the vacuum hoses for the brake are there. Remove it and take it to your work bench. There are small parts in it that you may drop and lose if you try to work on it on the truck. Take the solenoid apart and clean it. Usually, for your symptoms, the little solenoid piston has a some carbon on it and sticks. When you have it working again give it a shot of lube in the little brass screen every so often so it doesn't do this again.

On the a/c, I'm guessing that you have the relay already in place that the ign switch recall covered (I recall the 96's coming with a relay/overlay from the factory). If not, the ign switch might be going. . One fof the relay's under the dash above the brake pedal might be going? Bad contacts in relay?

Also ck. the blower switch on the dash, if you can play with the knob and get it going you have a bad ground/or other bad wire or the switch contacts are shot.

Finally you might check the "blower resistor" near the "squirel cage" in the blower box under the dash/glove box.

Good luck

Andy

Thanks.

Joe G. ; Thanks for the info on the solenoid, I wasn't aware it was take-apart-able. BTW, Lana and I will be heading through Eureka next weekend, going to Crescent to pick-up my new fishin' boat. Unfortunately, don't have time for Samoa House.

Andy; Thanks for the info about the relay locations. I'm pretty sure it's a dirty contact, now just gotta find which. Might as well clean as many as I can find,eh?

Samoa

Joe, Crabman; You guys are right. That place is downright dangerous. One of these times we are going to take the 5'er and after dinner, stay the night. Definitely don't wanna drive after the meal.
