Hello to all.

I ordered a exhaust brake for my baby and it should be here this friday. I bouight the warranty from dodge and wish to keep it. (at least for now) I ordered the exhaust brake from dodge in hopes to keep everything on line.

What I want to know is this: I want to mount a switch on the shift lever to activate the brake. Where can I get the said item ??

I will update my profile soon. Member since 99.

Thanks in advance.

See Ya

Chris

Pete/John/Stan/Wes what is going on??

Sorry I forgot to tell you that I have a 2001 HO with the 6 speed. I am pulling a 33 ft 5ver about 12000 lbs.

thanks again

Chris

BD has a switch. Go to the TDR homepage and click on site sponsors (left side of page).

When you link up to the BD website you will need to find your way to Dodge>Exhaust Brake>Pricing. That is where the switch is listed.

An additional thought-I assume that you are doing the install. If so, you can avoid one of the more difficult aspects of installing the brake if you will be using the shifter-mounted switch. That is the removal of the cigar lighter socket to attach to a source of 12v. This 12v. source is only used to light the rocker switch that comes with the E-brake by Jacobs. On the other hand, the 12 v. source at the cigar lighter is a wonderful source of key-on power.

If you are handy, you can build your own bracket and buy the 2-speed axle switch (PP6490) from Napa Auto Parts for about $10. 00.

Help with jpg post for wire diagram...

I have a jpg of the wiring diagram that really helps hooking up the Two-speed switch. I will email it to one of you who can post it for all to see.

If installing the Two-speed switch W/O installing Ebrake switch, attach the Two-Speed wires to the Yellow and Red wires coming from the Ebrake into the cab.

If installing two-speed switch while keeping the factory Ebrake switch, cut the yellow wire (Ebrake) and add two speed switch to each end completing the circut.

BTW, the shifter mount BD supplies is really nice and is custom fit the 97 and older shift lever or the 98 and newer shift lever. It is worth the few extra bucks to get this with the standard two-speed switch they use.

JJW,

You should be able to post the drawing. If you look at the "reply" page you should see "Attach file:" just above the "Submit Reply" button.

Thunderball, you can install an exhaust brake on an automatic transmission, but it is highly not recommended as the torque converter in the transmission can get extremely hot using the exhaust brake. If you modify your transmission by adding a switch to keep the torque converter lockup or something like that while using the exhaust brake I think you would be okay. If I am wrong since I am not an auto person they will correct me.

It is my understanding that D. C. says NO to exhaust brakes on automatic eqiuped trucks. I even think they have put this in writting. Beware if you are still under warranty. If I am wrong anyone can feel free to correct me.

:) Thanks for the info.

I picked the brake up today and was reading the instructions. I don't like the switch mounting location.

I have not been to the BD site but will be going there soon. I want the 2wheel Low kit for my truck.

Thanks again.

See Ya

Chris

Hey Chris nice to see that your alive. Been wondering about you lately.

From the set up's that I have seen if you go with the shifter mounted lever the one from BD is certainly the cleanest and easiest. In fact I will probably go that route in the future. Like they said above the hardest part about the installation is gaining the power through the socket. Just find out what wires need to be run through the switch and you should be able to get it installed in a couple of hours.

BTW, check out the Local EVents page I am hoping to get a work day scheduled some time soon. If we can find a place where we can all gather to do a little work.

Wiring options

Is it possible to wire another brand of engine brake like the Jacobs, i. e. from pin 20 of the ECM?

Ebrake wiring diagram

I'm going to try and post the wiring diagram that was e-mailed to me by JJW-ND.
