I am confused why a Jake brake cannot be installed on my 04 Dodge. I have taken the Serial number to my local dealer and they input the data to their computer, and a Jake brake kit is available for the truck, but then they tell me it will void my warranty. I don't understand why Dodge will sell a kit that will void the warranty. I also input the information to the Mopar parts web site and they came back with a Kit Number, and refered me to my dealer to clearfy the warranty. Can someone clearfy this.

To make an exhaust brake function so you get your moneys worth out of the brake on your 04. 5 auto you need to modify the auto transmission to lock the torque converter up when the truck slows down... .

A standard auto transmission when the computer sees the throttle lifted... . reduces the pressure in the torque convter thus allowing the converter to slip, like putting your foot on the clutch pedal..... on the 06 trucks and some other brands of trucks the computer knows that there is an exhaust brake and when the exhuast brake is on. . maintains pressure in the torque converter to pass the load on to the engine... . in other words the torque converter stays locked up...

We offer the pacbrake line of exhaust brakes and try not to sell a customer with an automatic transmission an exhaust brake unless he wishes to upgrade the transmission with at least a kit that hold the pressure in the torque converter up.....

With this all said... . if you install the transmission kit, and the exhaust brake... you've just put the warranty of the transmission from their hands to your hands. . there is no problem with either the jacobs or pacbrake used on the cummins... . its the kit for the transmission that alters it... that DC is worried about.....

If you'd like to consider our setup... drop me a note... . I've taken care of many TDR members... and I hope this reply answers your questions..... if you have more please post them... .
