Exhaust brake for 05 auto

I have been looking for an exhaust brake for my 05 with 48re auto 600fp. Jake brake and Pac brake do not seem to make any for this year truck with the auto trans. Has anyone else had this issue and can it be resolved?

I have had a PACBRAKE PRXB in my truck for over a year and drive with it on all the time. It is awesome. Granted it is not like the new 2010 trucks but at least it is a exhaust brake.

I assume you know you'll destroy the automatic transmission in a 200 miles or less if you don't provide aftermarket hardware to lock the torque converter when the exhaust brake is closed. Without lockup no deceleration you'll churn and overheat the ATF and destroy the 48RE.

PacBrake may make a kit to lock the converter, I don't know. Other aftermarket manufacturers can sell you one.

Trans controller is included with Pac Brake. I have enjoyed about 50,000 miles of trouble free use of my Pac Brake. I go from Mesa, AZ to the mountains north of payson towing my 7000lbs 5th wheel 2 or 3 times a month. Unless someone cuts me off i usually do not need to press the foot brake until I hit a light in town. Holds the truck between 55 and 60 in 3rd on the biggest hills. Big saver on truck and trailer brakes.

As I recall, earlier 48REs were lacking a thrust washer to withstand the back-torque of e-braking.

took my pac brake off. worst 1200 I spent. No power to it without modding the transmission.

You are correct. Jacobs and Dodge engineers did extensive testing between 2003 when the new Gen III HPCR trucks were introduced and MY 2006 when they finally authorized installation of an exhaust brake on a 48RE equipped truck from the factory. The first delays were due to limited extra space in the ECM of 2003 and 2004 models for all the required programming to make engine, exhaust brake, and 48RE work together. The second reason we were told was due to an inadequate reverse thrust washer that could stand application of the exhaust brake for the warranty period.

With MY2006 they finally had it all together and it was possible to order an '06 with Jacobs EB. I owned one and it worked great.

I have a Pac Brake PRXB on my '05, The TCC stays locked up when the brake is in use.
