As others have stated, you will definitely have to have some means of keeping the TC locked (BTW, a controller, lockup switch, mystery switch, etc all do the same thing - keep the TC locked - some are automated, some are manual). Problem here is with a stock TC and a stock VB, you are almost guaranteed to burn your TC clutch. Furthermore, with a stock VB, you will only be able to maintain lockup in 3rd and 4th gear if you have a 47RE. To "correctly" run an exhaust brake with an auto (in other words reliable!), you should invest in a good aftermarket TC, VB, and some sort of lockup controller along with your exhaust brake. $$$ adds up quick when you do it right! Good news is that with many of your aftermarket VB's you will have the ability to maintain lockup in all gears which is a major bonus for towing at slow speed - both up and down the hills.
