I just bought one of those gear shift knobs out of the Geno's catalog that has the micro switch in the center for turning your exhaust brake on and off. I took it for a spin and am going back out now and take it off. What a noisy thing that turned out to be. It buzzed and rattled continuously. I'm certain I installed it right. That gear shift just has a vibration in it all the time. If you're going to attach something to it, it had better be tight. This one wasn't.

I'm not familiar with the 98. 5's but on my 97 there is two buttons over the cup holder and one of them is the accent lights in the bumper. The other one on mine is just a filler button. Go to the dealer and get a working one and hook up your exhaust brake on that. Thats what I did and it works great.

I've got the switch knob from Geno's and it works great. No noise at all and very convenient. Either you got a bad one or the install is screwed up.

I don't know how I could have installed it wrong. If I squeeze the knob it'll quiet down but otherwise it buzzes and clackety clacks. I also was dissapointed in the feel of it. It's real plasticy and light. I like the look and the operation of it but the noise just ruined it for me. Oh well, back to the hair scrunchy. AC

Mine buzzed too when I first got it, so I emailed Fred Danner (who makes it and sells them to Genos) and he suggested lithium grease to quiet it down; he also offered to replace it if I prefered. Good service there.

I didn't feel like taking it all apart again and while looking for alternatives the rattle went away. Every now and then it will rattle, but nothing like it did when new. My complaint with the knob is that it just feels cheap. Hard to expand on that, as it's a subjective impression.

If someone comes out with a quality feeling piece with an illuminated button in the same location I'd be all over it! :D

I felt the same way when I installed mine. The rattle is almost nonexistent now.

The unit itself would feel better with a little heavier plastic. But, I've used it so much, it doesn't even bother me anymore.
