A slight dilemma nothing major just curious as to which exhaust brake would be my best option. Looking forward to hear what you experts and folks with years of knowledge and personal experience have to say. That way i can make a better decision. Thanks

Pacbrake PRXB, I did a lot of research before buying one for my 06 an it worked great, also gives you on board air for bags or horns

I just replaced my Jake with a PRXB. I find that it compares favorably performance wise with the Jake but, like so many others, my vacuum pump went out on the Jake. Install of the PBXB was pretty easy, following the included instructions.

I preffer the pac brake... using pressure rather than vacuum seems to make it work better... have had one cusomer wear out his pump already though... Pac Brake has a BIG compressor option though that is built nice... . Other bennifit is the pac brake comes with a bag full of goodies that allows you to use its compressor for airing up tires, air matresses, rafts,or even your blow up doll if thats what you need... . lol!

bd or pac. i like the bd better because of where the compressor is mounted. if you go pac mount the compressor some where else than the engine.

PXRB or Jake. I think the regulation system of the BD leaves a lot to be desired.

I have a Jake and it has been flawless, and like the level of braking it provides at all rpms. Now at 17-18K GCW a little more braking at 1500-1800 would be nice, but the Jake does great 1800+.

I really appreciate all the input. I have doing some research myself and have been leaning towards the pacbrake. I do belive that is the one i am gonna get. How is the install? (i. e. difficulty) Do you need the ECM bypass wiring for a standard transmission? Thanks

You need to wire it into the ECM so it knows when throttle is at 0%. The ECM also gives you a 2 second delay so the brake doesn't come on when shifting.
The task sounds scary but not a big deal really - the instructions are very good and have pics. Just make sure you disconnect the neg battery terminals.

I am at the 1200 mile mark of a 4000 mi trip through the western states with my 28ft trailer. I have the PRXB on mine now in its 4th year without ANY PROBLEMS what so ever. When I am going down an 8% grade without touching the service brake, I am happy!
My truck is a 6spd but I installed a PRXB on my Dentists '07 auto. He took about a 3000 mile trip with his big heave camper on it and the FIRST thing that he told me about his trip was how much he liked the exhaust brake. I have the switch on my shifter. For my Dentists truck, I installed a old style floor headlight dimmer switch on the floor to the LEFT of the emergency brake pedal.
The most important thing to make your brake trouble free and the electric compressor last is to make sure you have ALL air lines leak free.
