I just installed a BD exhaust brake this sunday. What a bear. Should of been easy enough, but it was missing a bracket and had a few other problems too. Anyway, I finally got it installed, and started to test it. It makes a hissing sound when I engage it. I figure it must be a leak at the clamp that clamps the brake to the turbo adapter. I took it for a test drive, and it still hissed, and although I've never ridden in a truck with an exhaust brake, it wasn't slowing me down as much as I figured it would. Got back and there was some smoke coming out in that general area.
At any rate, it was too hot to adjust last night, so I left it home today. I'll tighten up the clamp, but I don't want to over-tighten it. Should I tighten it until the hissing completely goes away? The only thing I have to reference is the crank and chrome show, and I don't remember theirs hissing (but maybe the microphones didn't pick it up).
Thanks for any advice. .
