OK, Thanks Carlton

It also means my temp guage isn't calibrated just right either. But that is true, it does run a little hotter under a load.

Thanks again,

2001.5

Carlton,

Is the coolant temperature shut off the same for the 2001. 5 Cummins/Jacobs brake? The E-brake will only come on if the engine is de-fueled and the coolant temperature is under 175-180 degrees F. That is a nice feature.

Do you know when the new shift mounted Cummins/Jacobs brake switch will be available for purchase by itself (not in the kit)? I would like to upgrade from the BD switch I currently now.

Thanks for your input Carlton. :D

As far as I know, the idle coolant temperature brake shut-off is a new feature for the 2003 trucks. It is part of the ECM software and can't be added on older vehicles.

I just asked the guy in the desk across from me (he's in charge of the switch retrofit kit). The installation plans and testing will be finished by the end of the month. I'm not sure how long it will take to get switches to the field after that but they should be available by the end of February.

just talked to my 5 star stealer, parts dept. was told I would see my brake in march. good thing I ordered it in nov. now i'm ******!!!

This is probably a very dumb question. I'm trying to learn:) If you plan to install a 4 or 5 inch exhaust later will the Mopar exhaust brake have to be modified?

The inlet for the exhaust brake is about 4" then it goes down to 3" outlet. The exhaust is 3 1/2" to the muffler then 4" after the muffler. Any exhaust kit offered would have to adapt to the turbo elbow or turbo mount brake.

So with an exhaust brake, a 4 inch exhaust is all that is feasible. In other words, you could go to the 4 inch exhaust but going larger (5") wouldn't give you anything??

The ideal thing would be to have a turbo mount brake that was 4" on the outlet as well the inlet (But that would have compatiblity issues). Then run your 4" or 5" exhaust all the way thru.

I agree with Silver Fox. I know I need the exhaust brake more than the 5" exhaust. I put the 5" exhaust tip from Gino's on my truck and it looks great on the dually.

Actually the Mopar exhaust brake outlet is 3 1/2 inches, not 3. Mine is in the box and will be installed tomorrow. I just measured it.

You can still install exhaust after your brake and it will work to keep temps down etc. Exhaust brakes are great I would recommend one to everyone its just that they are not all created equal.

I talked to my dealer this afternoon. He has several exhaust brakes on order for his stock. He put my name on the 3rd one to come in :) Thanks for all the information provided on the exhaust brake. This is one great forum for the new Dodge owner!!

At the same time I ordered a navigation radio. It's a GPS nav system plus satellite radio, FM, AM and CD player. Not sure but think it will run a remote CD changer. This is supposed to be an easy install. Just unplug the original and plug this one in. We'll see.

Exhaust Brake Installation

A business aquaintance was kind enough to offer the use of a heated garage. I took the opportunity today to install the Jacobs Exhaust Brake that has been sitting in a box for a couple of weeks now. The instructions were excellent. I followed the instructions step by step and had the brake installed and operational in six hours. I am sure a dealer with proper tools and experience can probably do it in four to five hours.

The brake works great. Can't wait to get the fiver on the back and give her a good workout.

I also installed my J&J Enterprises mud flaps. Nice kit. Looks very nice. Next the running boards.

Those of you wishing to upgrade to a 4 or 5 inch exhaust and would like to use an exhaust brake..... PacBrake builds both sizes... They can be calibrated to the correct back pressure for the HO Cummins... . They are used on Cummins, Cat, IH in mid range engines... . Contact your local Pac Brake Distributor for more information... . We've sold several for for second generation trucks who have put larger turbo's on their engines... .

We've delivered our first pallet of exhaust brakes to our customers on our list..... I'm down to one or two... and waiting a new shipment next week... .

Have a great evening.....
