I am considering the pacbrake for my 06 3500 manual. I'm not running a muffler or a cat and have 6 inch stacks. What will the exhaust brake sound like inside the cab and from outside? Will it be loud? I would really like it to be loud, like a straight piped big rig:-laf On the manual models does the brake engage as soon as you let off the throttle? If so is there an on/off switch? How does it bolt to the turbo? Who should i go to to buy my pacbrake?

Well you wont get the big rig sound because they have compression brakes, not exhaust brakes. It sounds windy with it on, as all your doing is blocking the exhaust flow so it increases noise, like wind coming thru a door crack.



On all models there is a on/off switch, and they are linked to the throttle via the ECM, at least the Jake is. It clamps to the turbo in place of a removable elbow.

Pac Brake here, works great. I also wanted additional braking w/ my new 5wr. I don,t know if I'd use anything else, also have air bags to.

My bad, his truck is a 2007 not a 2008. Had my fingers on the wrong keys. He says he blew compressors, I have never looked at his truck under the hood, so I have NO idea what he has. I DO know it's a Jacobs, he had it installed by the dealer when he bought his truck. And he also is complaining about how long the warranty on is is since he has had a couple rounds at repairs.

If dealer installed before delivery it should go under the 3/36 warranty. If installed after I think 1/12. In addition, my aftermarket warranty considered it an add on and didn't cover the failed pump. Good news is, they are only $90 from a Cummins dealer, and very easy to swap out. I agree it is rediculous how often the pump fails, they should last much longer, especially as a Cummins supplied part.

It's 3/36 from date of install, and 3/100 on the brake itself. I had mine installed 3 days before my 3/36 expired, but that had zero affect on my Jake.

I have the Cool Blue Hose and Tag with the PacBrake and it all works excellent together. I could not imagine towing through the mountains with my 5er and just service brakes. Overall, there have been no negatives with the brake, plus it helps warm the truck up when it is really cold. Scotty

I just installed a pacbrake prxb on mine. Easy enough install. Works very well, almost as well as the one on the new 6. 7. It would probaly be equal if I had the same amount of gear control. I am very pleased so far.

PacBrake has taken an across the board price increase... Ive quoted a whole lot of TDR members in the last few weeks... . That cost increase to us has gone into effect but I will honor my old pricing through the end of Jan..... Those units ordered by close of business Jan 31...

Vacume pump needed

My Jake vacume pump went out (agn ) and I see that some have quoted under 100$ for replacement. Cummins quotes me closer to 250$ (Abq), does anyone have a better price (the 100$ area). Would like to get one soon and if there are places to get one cheaper would like to know where.



(there is one in the classified and am checking on it for 125+s/h)



If I had it to do over, would probably do an aftermarket vice the Jake due to the vac pump fails. But I got mine w/truck @ a special of 500 b4 they went up (Mopar had a "sale" when I ordered mine) after I orderd but b4 delivery of the truck. Would rather have an air comp on board than a vac - even tho it wont clean the insides

I had a factory ordered, personal mechanic installed Jacobs exhaust brake on my '06. The vacuum pump failed at around 65,000 miles. I purchased a new one from a Cummins dealer and it was still working fine at 230,000 miles when I sold the truck.

if we did a survey on those vac pumps that failed if they were in the "desert" area - blowing dust ?? causing the problem or is it just normal failure rate? I know it is dusty here 'specially with the 100mph gust we get now and then. Usually about 30-40mph and it does get dusy in the fall/spring. Sew... . just another thought and we know wat dey worth -- 0. 000002. 5¢

I have the early 2004 Ram3500 SRW CTD and it has the auto transmission with the tow/haul switch. That works well but I would like to have a little more "retard" for it. Since I am beyond the warranty and have only 21,450 miles on the truck, could I add a PacBrake and not mess up the transmission? Is there some other way to get more "retard" using the stock tow/haul switch?

With The 2004 automatic trans your going to need the transmission controller that comes with our exhaust brake kit to keep the T/C locked up. It will work in conjuction with your tow haul.

Thank you fro the response. I was more concerned about the reverse thruster that I have heard is the culprit in the failures. Is that wrong or does the controller fix that? Where can I find more info about that EB and the way it works?
