Having read many posts for an exhaust brake are there any reasons other than the initial $900 bucks to not get one?

The only reason NOT to spend $900... is that they're NOT $900!! Try Camping World for a US Gear Decelerator... killer performance, quiet operation... . and about $650!

BCFAST,
Where is there a us gear decelerator for 650 bucks? I have a first gen, and the 3. 5" is 900 on the website that you listed.
Thanks

Mr. Miller, please dont go by the prices given on the web site, as I have found them to be ... . unreliable. Some Camping World stores have a US Gear display and even a rep present. Run down to, or call the Manassas store! When I bought mine, I had to drive to near Orlando to find the factory rep... very cool guy and he came down on price. I know that a 4 inch Decelerator is about $750-800. You wont use a set of brake pads up in the next 8 years! E-brakes are a wonderful thing.

For the Jacobs E-brake try this number 1-800-559-6698. I bought mine here and the price was the lowest I could find. Ask for Alex.

Blue Goat,

Could you e-mail me where and how much for the Jacobs e-brake please.

Thanks,
Bill

Not to throw a wrench in this discussion, check out all the graphs on the net for PAC, US GEAR, Jacobs and BD. Then go drive your truck and see what RPM range you drive in. Some guys must drive 2000-3000 from the storys I here about back tires sliding in the rain, etc. I drive 1000-2000 rpm, and decided on the BD because it "shows on the graph" more brake power at the lower RMS. I love it. I have never driven any of the other brakes, but know what I have works just right, any less braking amount and I may have been dissatisfied. I really bought it because I was tired of freezing in the cab this winter. It heats up the cab about 60% faster while driving (I live on top of a small mountain) and about 100% faster if you start the truck, turn on the brake, go back in the house for 3-5 minutes to pick up my lunch, get in the truck and I got heat!

Had a US GEAR on my '96..... Won't make that mistake again. When it worked it work quite well. About the time the warranty was up it died. Solenoid went out... . bypass tube broke off..... They wouldn't cover it. Not again. BD for me soon.

Ditto towpro, BD, Your question is one that would be hard to answer unless you could drive the diffent brakes. I choose the BD but i am sure there are others just as good. i can tell you from my experience (3years) with the brake towing and empty it works great and is very reliable. Thats about it Good luck,
