Which pump is $94? Is the Jacob's pump that cheap now? Either way, I'm not buying anymore but, I'm curious if that is the case that they dropped the price on those pumps. I didn't bother looking this time after the experience I had last time.

Far cry from the damn near $600 I paid 18 months ago!!#@$%! Half tempted to go back to Cummins and ask WTF?? Hauling buddy GShail just bought one this morning for $90 and change, his went out yesterday on his way to SoCal.

I am sure they know there is a reliability issue and they dropped the price so to lower the level of complaint. You can get them from the Cummins suppliers and it is the factory Jacobs pump.

BTW, the last one I bought said "Made in Hungary" so unless you you speak Hungarian don't expect to find parts.

I wish more people would complain to their dealers about this. It is exactly the same pump. Mine made it to 200K miles and then it was just the diaphram that went bad, not the bearing. Hard to complain. You can have this pump overnighted from Memphis to any Cummins dealer in the country for $95 + 15% "truck down" fee. "Truck down" orders are taken at the Cummins warehouse until something like 10pm EST by the way.

I honestly think that this is a discrepency (mistake) in the Mopar parts system, not a blatent markup... I wish someone with a little "pull", i. e. , a parts manager or distributor at a dealership, would look into it... (read - "contact someone at DC who gives a damn"). I am pretty sure that this part will eventually cost about $150-$200 or so at a dealership. In the meantime they're building up a fair number or disgusted customers, many of which are "haulers" who are routinely quizzed by "RVers" about their pickups at truck stops, etc. If the pump did in fact cost $700 I would never recommend the brake to anyone. You should consider the pump a wear item... It's working full time.

I also wish they'd get the stinkin belt into the Mopar parts system. Dodge "parts man" has to find the brake "kit" then break it down to find the cummins pn, then cross, then...

I'm honestly shocked that they are selling them that cheap. You can see in post number 6 of this thread where I had called them and they even quoted me the price as almost $500 at the time. Seems either someone doesn't know what they are selling or price is dependent on who answers the phone.

The first pump in '05 that went bad had a got a $560 replacement, but luckily that was under warrentee, After that went south the third pump went for $190 a year or so later. The forth pump was $94 in the spring of '07. If the cummins shop or dealer has this part in the system from 2+ years ago it will show up at he $500+ price. If you order from Mid-South Cummins or a large distribution place you will get the new and latest price.

I still think Cummins knows there is a problem and they really dropped the price and Dodge doesn't give a crud and still charges the original price.

Well, quick update here. My snorkel valve failed last night. I didn't have time to take it apart yet and see if it just popped out of the hole or if it actually came apart. I have a different sized valve to cut down and try from the lot that the dive shop gave me. I will try that one next, depending on what happened to this one. I probably can't get to it until Thursday of this week though.

You must be able to get that off and apart in your sleep by now. :-laf

You'd sure think so :D

Last night I got time to work on it again. The first valve I put in looks like it was not very resistant to petroleum products and/or heat. It disintigrated for the most part since there is oil in the pump head and ends up being a little in the air flow of the diaphram.

Anyways, I cut another valve last night, of a different color and hopefully material, than the first, and we will see how far that one gets me. If this one fails, I'm back to square one. :(

just called cummins in my area,s. e. fla. the pump is $95. 00+tax. ordered it, be here tommrow. i called the local dodge dealer and they wanted $500. 00 for the same pump.
