Never posted in this forum, but was hoping you guys could fill me in on something. Im pretty familiar with the exhaust brakes on the older models but not so much with the new motors. My neighbor bought a cab chassie with out an exhaust brake. I thought all the cab and chassies came with one? Any way he called the dodge place they said they had one for $99. 00 and would put it on for $300. 00 this doesn't sound like the old one's at all? I did a search with no luck. Thanks in advance

From what I understand, the variable geometry turbocharger serves as an exhaust brake on the 6. 7l. You do not have to add one in the exhaust system. However, apparently they are not all wired and set up for exhaust brake operation. I think the $99. 00 is for the wiring harness, switch, bezel and other parts to enable the turbo to function as an exhaust brake. $300. doesn't buy much labor at the dealer anymore, so it can't be too involved to hook everything up!

Since you need specific harness, plugs, switch, etc. , I imagine MOPAR is the only source. You can shop MOPAR parts online as a number of dealers sell that way, like dodgeparts.com and others.

If you could get the hardware, I would suspect the biggest problem would then be the computer control software. Probably not available.

I think he is talking about the '07 6. 7l which I think already is programmed for that function. Its a lot like the block heater thing on the newer engines; Cummins supplies all engines with block heaters but Dodge makes the power cords for the heaters an option. It sounds like the same concept with the exhaust brake function on the new engines. They all come with the exhaust brake function built in to the turbocharger but the controls and wiring harness are options. At least, that's my understanding.

Sorry, my mis-read.

I thought the engine in the C&C, was the same as the 2500/3500 except de-tuned. Doesn't it have an exhaust brake built into the turbo-charger?
