I have a 2012 3500, g56 with ST trim. I have looked all over the net and other fourms and hoping that the TDR members can help. Is there a way to turn the Exhaust Brake on automatically when I turn the key on? I turn it on manually but when the girlfriend drives it (or anyone else for that matter) he/she forgets to. I asked my local dodge dealer and they said there was no way to do it. Has anyone figured out a way to do this or point me in the right direction? I also looked into carbonite cummins with no answers.
Thanks

I think only the commercial trucks do this? 4500 & 5500? And they might only do it if you keep a trailer hooked up?

When I have my gooseneck hooked up I still have to manully turn it on. A friend of mine just got a 15 3500 Limited and he can program his to come on when he turns on the key and the neighbor has a 08 3500 C&C and his is on soon as he starts it. I just want that feature for mine and there has to be ways around it. I am looking into doing deletes from Starlite Diesel and no sure if he can "turn" the EB thru his programming or not.

Any idea how to do it without setting a CEL?

Yes, train drivers brains to push the button after starting the truck. Given that it is a two stage brake that is controlled by the trucks computers, trying to work around that is not the best idea of the week. SNOKING

I am afraid you are stuck with turning it on manually as part of your startup habit. No programing/configuration change is available that I have been able to find.

I spoke with an engineer who is somewhat familiar with techniques to work around a momentary switch like is on the truck to toggle the brake on. After my conversation with him and much reading here and elsewhere, I decided it best to not take the risk to attempt a hardware addition to solve it. Confirmed here by a couple of knowledgeable techs, these trucks' control modules can be quite finicky and if you are not careful you can introduce a gremlin into the control system by making physical modifications in the wiring, etc..

I'll bet he can't......:-laf

Thanks for looking in to it. I will just keep turning it on. I will have to make sure I tell anyone else who drives it to do the same.

Since it stays on with a trailer plugged in perhaps creating a trailer plug which has just enough resistance in the system to fool the truck into thinking it has a trailer installed would be a workaround.

With that being said, even more strange to me is the tow/haul mode isn't persistent, even WITH a trailer hooked up.

Have you done a search on this forum? If you did you will see a thread on Wiring-EB- on-at-start?
PCarson posted this question for his 09 truck and a solution was provided. Than the question has anyone been able to do this same mode to a 2010 and later. The response back was with the CAN BUS wiring system the switches sends out a signal to the ECM/BCM and the computer turns on the EB. So no I do not think the newer trucks will allow this type of mod do to the CANBUS wiring on the newer vehicles.

I have attached the link below for your review.

Someone on the cummins forum did this and it does work.....If remember right:confused: it didn't work on a 2013 but worked on the 2014 and up trucks.

My 2013 3500 would not remember to keep the exhaust brake on (or T/H on) with a 7-way harness connected. My 2014 does remember to keep the exhaust brake on, but not T/H, as long as there's a 7-way harness connected, so there was a slight change in that aspect between the two years. Since the OP has a 2012.......I'm not sure if the trailer plug mod will work.

There was a mod for the 3rd GEN trucks to keep the exhaust brake switch ON energized all of the time, but, as Snoking mentioned, I'm guessing that mod would be hard to adapt since the 2013 & newer pickups have a 3 position switch now.

It would be interesting to see how the differences exist in relation to the Cab & Chassis rigs versus the pickups. Maybe someone good with wiring technology can look at it in the Ram bodybuilders site.

Anyone know if this tricks the truck into thinking its towing 100% of the time? And does it elevate tow miles on the towing odometer in the EVIC?

Why would it not do that? If you fool it to think there is a trailer then it is going to log trailering miles. Snoking

I totally forgot about how the EVIC has towing miles listed. When I first towed, I ran across this and thought it was cool. Later, I tried to find where I saw this in the EVIC a few times and could never find it again and gave up. May have to start the quest again for that elusive screen in the EVIC, but I digress.
