It was -28C (-20F)here yesterday. When I walked out to my truck that was running via factory remote start, it was rev'd up and the brake was on and if you are out side for a bit listening to it, you can here it cycle on and off at times. Once I get in and turn the ign. on, the brake stops and it goes back to idle. I then use the cruise control and rev it back up, then manually turn on the brake and it comes back on and sounds the same as before. My 18 does this and my 2014 did the same thing. In cold enough temps the brake will come on on its own while the ECM has the motor rev'd up.
As for it not staying on as you had it set when you last shut the truck off, yea I wish it would stay on. On my 07.5 I had rewired the switch and it was always on, period, unless I press the button to shut it off. But that cheat wiring job won't work on the newer trucks.
I get why they have them defaulted to off. If a clueless person jumps in and drives it on ice, especially freezing rain like we had a week ago here, they'd have there back end passing them in no time. The brake is strong enough that even with true studded winter tires, 1,700 lb's of steel winter weight that I have in my truck I can get the truck's rear sliding on ice with the e-brake alone, and I do it on purpose because I know what to expect. ;) Chrysler doesn't want that liability of the clueless people losing control and blaming them for it. You turned it on, your fault.

One of the Clueless here. I did not know engine braking could cause tires to break loose. I always thought it was merely compression breaking and didn't go the next thought that compression braking is causing drag on the tires. I also figured the reason for the default was to meet mileage demands placed by the Guvm't. Good to see this post and "enlighten" me before I ran into something solid. Thanks to all.
