2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission exhaust brake

A friend of mine owns a body shop and he bought a wrecked dodge diesel and it had a exhaust brake that was put on by dodge. He took the brake off and gave it to me. I think it is a jacobs ebrake and it came off of a 2001. I have a 1995 automatic will this brake fit my truck and what would I have to do since it is an automatic.

You should get hold of Jacobs and find out which one you have. It probably requires 60 lb exhaust valve springs instead of the 35 lb ones you have. If you want it to work with an automatic trans you have to have some way to maintain the torque convertor lock on decelleration. The way it works stock is that after a few seconds of idle throttle the TCC will unlock. This renders the exhaust brake useless. You may want to search the forums for the ways to do this and the advantages/disadvantages of each method.

The ebrake on the 2001 uses an output from the ECM to turn the brake on. Your '95 does not have an ECM. You could accomplish the same thing with a throttle mounted switch, like some of the 3rd party exhause brakes use. Also, the brake would have to physically fit on the turbo of the '95. I have no idea if they are the same. You might do better just selling it here and take the $$$.
