I own a 03'5 HO with a 48Re auto trans. I read the article about the 04. 5 HO with the 48Re auto trans that now has a switch from Dodge that will lock up the tourque converter for use with an exhaust Brake. Will there be or is there a kit that can be purchased from Dodge that will allow me to have an exhaust brake with my truck. One of the reasons I bought the 03. 5 with the 48RE auto was because Dodge promoted the fact that I would be able to use an exhaust brake early in 03. Anybody have any answers this early in the 04. 5 game I really don't want to replace my 03. 5 for am 04,5. The only thing I would replace is the darn drivers seat and the 2 rails that leave there impression after a several hour run. thanks

I think the answer is no

Trophy 1:

I believe the answer is no; this was discussed in issue before last (I think) of TDR. It was discussed how you can work around it by knowing when the 48RE locks up/unlocks.

I know a guy had an EZ and exhaust brake on his 03 and he had put 29K miles on his pullin big 5th wheel thru mountains and no problems. Who knows?

I was pretty disappointed as I was looking to buy one for my wife's truck. Now, I guess I'll wait until her truck goes out of the 3/36 warranty and have her 48RE built up by one of the transmission companies so we can use it.
