Just a little update..... after many years with PacBrake, Harold decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the fence... . he's let some of us sit and wait for replacement parts, and/or credits... . so his moving on hasn't bothered me much... . They are working to get caught up... and training new people... .

All the years we've been with PacBrake I've had one guy who through the years has helped... he knows that when I have an issue its not someone crying wolf, and has done a great job dealing with us and our customers when necessary...

I'm very lucky in that I've had the chance to go to their operation many times over the past 15 years that I've owned this company. I've also been very outspoken in that you need to understand the theory of operation to test and diagnose problems...

I've had a couple of customers who've had issues with the air compressor like Jack in Alaska... . in each case PacBrake has taken care of them... . but we've seen some issues with that compressor running excessively because of a small leak... I'm sure Jack will check his when he gets it back together... BTW Jack... do you do a lot of fishing there...

I've been to your great state 2 times on a goldwing and a couple times flying up... and its on my bucket list to visit for the summer in my 5er. . and sort of poke along and really see the country... . my last trip had me flying out of Homer over the inlet and landing in the Katmai to hunt bear... . with a camera... . OMG, 6 hours within yards... that was before digital camera's...

Let me get off the soap box... .

I have an 04. 5 6spd and I'm using the BD Brake. We take monthly trips with heavy triple axle fifthwheel.

Grapevine, Questa, Tehachapi, Cajon Pass, . . . no problems. Holds steady and slow.

I have had Jake for two years now without any problems. It was installed by a Cummins dealer and was a hell of a lot cheaper then going through Dodge. I leave my jake on all the time which I have heard that guys that don't have problems with the butterfly valve getting carboned up and sticking.

PB continuing saga.

Update on my PacBrake... ... ... ... ... .

I received the new air compressor & solenoid from the factory. I installed it. After it pumped up and stopped the brake worked fine. So I took a little drive and the 30 amp fuse blew. This happened 3 or 4 times. I contacted PB again. Jelag chimed in also... ... ... ..... thank you for that. PB sent a check valve. I installed it. The air compressor pumped up and shut off, then ran twice for just a fes secs. and then shut off THen I took a 2oo mile run to town. After several hours I realized that the PB was inop. again. The 30 amp fuse blew again. I replaced it and the pump has worked all the way home and running around town today. I sent PB an email. Bill Lang responded almost immediately by phone. Said I had been patient enough and he was sending me another air compressor via UPS immediately. He wants the old (1st new one) back for "autopsy". I am getting discouraged but they are really trying to solve the problem.
More later.

I used Jacobs brakes on an '01 and '06. The vacuum pump failed at around 60k miles on the '06 and I bought one from Cummins and replaced it. The second pump was still working fine at 230k miles when I sold the truck. Some have criticised the Jacobs brake because of the vacuum pump but I've been noticing a lot of PacBrake compressor failures reported recently on TDR.

I paid dealer price of $888 for my Jacobs brake.

I installed a PacBrake on my 2005 about 3 years ago, they work great, I have never had any problems, if you have some experience working on vehicles, you can do it yourself in about 3-4 hours, but remove the pass side inner fender first, it takes 5 minutes and will save you a lot of time doing the install, I also removed the right wheel, and placed the axle on a jack stand, talk to member jelag about buying one, it's a great product.

Ok... ..... the new replacement air compressor for the 2nd replacement air compressor was installed today. I very carefully soaped all of the connections and had to fix 3 leaks. After I used the truck around town and so far the 30 amp fuse has held. Hopefully the problem is solved and was a bad air compressor. This new one even sounds different and quieter.

I also like being able to blow my airhorn again at those a--h---s setting at a traffic light texting. Oo.

what about BD

I have hear BD mentioned a few times. but not too much has been said about that brake. I am looking at the pac vs the BD. Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I have 427k on my truck. AFTER the 4th vacuum pump quit,I took the Jacobs system off my truck. I am trying to save up for a PacBrake but with the current economy I am having a hard time right now. I deliver RV's and our rates have been cut big time! I really miss the exhaust brake.

I have had the PacBrake installed on my truck for a little over a month. I'm very happy with it. Towing the 5th wheel with the Pac is awesome. I also have the shifter switch. Hardly have to touch the brake pedal. Thanks Jim.
