u.s.gear aux trans & exhaust brake ????

Have strap, will tow...

I pull a 14K horse trailer goose neck with a 99 3500 auto 4. 10 I pull a lot of mts in the sw, sometimes 9% grades. Just replaced the front brakes at 22K miles. Very interested on installing e brakes. I have an ext warranty, will this void this warranty. What are some of the best e brakes on the mkt?

jaybird,

The exhaust brake is almost worthless with an auto unless you also modify the transmission or transmission controls so that the torque converter clutch will stay locked when decelerating with the trottle at idle. With the stock setup the TCC will just let go after a few seconds, the engine drops to idle, and away you go down the hill. The exhaust brake alone should not affect the warranty, but the transmission mods probably will.

I use the BD exhaust brake and have been real happy with it so far.

I have a BD brake and love it and it has saved me from rear ending some one at least once. I think the BD has the best hold back power without changing the valve springs in the truck (12 valve only,is there anything else?) .

US Gear Decelerator... magnificent piece of equipment!! By the way, sell your truck and find a manual; its the only way to be safe pulling the loads you do.

Jaybird, I totally agree with what Joe G. says. I am actually having a Pac Brake put onto my truck (see sig below)... I do have one piece of advice. Talk to Bill K. He knows some stuff about putting an E-brake onto an auto. The first week of Feb, he is putting his TC and VB along with the Pac Brake in my truck.

My BD has enough braking power that I can't use it with out weight on the truck on a snowy road. Unless I want to turn around very quickly!

12 valver running 60lb springs, 20lb of pressure at idle.

I had the Cummins E-brake on the 97 and traded with 83k miles and original brake shoes.
I now have a BD brake and it seems to have more braking power. LOVE IT!

I have the BD exhaust brake with 60lb springs installed and swear by it. Of course there are other words used when it is icy and "Ole Silver" wants to get froggy with the slippin' and slid'n. But what the hay!! It works and has kept the Hiney out of trouble serveral times... . Merry Christmas to All.

I have 4 PacBrakes on our trucks and they have been very good. The people at Pac are easy to deal with and know our problems (they also make e brakes for medium and large commercial trucks) I think that is very important as they design for the heavy truck industry and are used to high milage units. The only problem I have heard about is early units having the shaft get sticky if the truck is parked for long periods of time. Quality is high and service is second to none.

Just remember that DC will void your drive train warranty if you put a e brake on an auto. Other than that you will have to modify the transmission.
DTT has a great set up for towing and e brake, including tc control

I understand that as far as voiding the warranty, DC would like you to believe they will void it but they can't.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U. S. C. 2302(C)) protects us from "blanket" warranty denials based on installing after market parts. When I had my BD brake installed the installer had to take it to Dodge to find out why it would not work. The service supervisor told me "do not install that on your vehicle as it will void the warranty. " I bit my tongue and ignored his comment.
IF the aftermarket part causes the failure, then the warranty may be voided.

I have the BD brake and I found that going down hill with the camper on, the brake will slow the truck to the point where I had to accelerate so I would not slow too much.
