Has anyone had any kind of problem with their exhaust brake? I am concerned mostly with any possibility of engine damage. I recently ordered a Pacbrake and they said it was set at 60 pounds. Is that pushing it? What brake is everyone using, and how do you like it?

:) I've had a pac brake for three + mo with no problems on a recent cross country trip using it quite often on some steep downgrades- look into the dtt modified pacbrake :D

First, I have the Cummins E Brake, and its on a 24V, so some of what I will say is info I have picked up from this board... not my experiences.

It is my understanding that the 30lb or 60 lb thing refers to the valve springs on a 12 valve. If you get the 60lb brake, you need to replace the 30lb springs on your truck with the 60lb ones. This info is not applicable to the 24 valve.

I have heard good things lately about the Pacbrake. I love my e brake. I also believe the BD brake needs an ocassional check to ensure the correct amount of backpressure.

You did not post your signature, so we don't know if you have 12 or 24 valves.

Anyone want to jump in here and add or correct some of my post?

I had a Pac Brake with 60- psi springs on my '93 for over 120K miles and had zero problems except for a pressure switch which "crudded" up about once a year and needed cleaning-----hose out with electric contact cleaner then blow out with air hose. Have had E-brake on the '01 for 20+k miles now with zero problems. I would not be with out one if pulling/hauling a load.

We run PacBrake Exhaust Brakes

We use PacBrake Exhaust Brakes on our Trucks. Was money well spent would do it again in a heartbeat. If your gonna tow a real heavy load (we are pushing GCWR 30,000) would recommend adding a TST Power Kit (PowerMax I, II or III).

E Brake

I had a Jacobs E-brake installed by the dealer about 2 months ago. I love it. No problems as of yet but not many miles on the truck yet. I haul a Coachman slide in. It weighs 3200 and I drive around the Pa. mountians. I think it was a good investment. My . 02 cents

I've had my Pac-Brake for a year now. Only one problem. I hosed down the engine and that gummed up the vacuum servo and the brake wouldn't operate. If it wasn't for reading it here, I'd have never figured that out. Other than that, it's been very good. And I use it religiously. Empty or full.
