Exhaust Brakes

Is it recomended to replace the exhaust valve springs on a 24 valve H. O. when installing an exhaust brake? I just got through installing a PACBRAKE on my Dad's 96 12 valve and we did replace the exhaust valve springs.

It sounds like there's not to many TDR members out there that are running exhaust brakes. I hate to rely on just the manufacturer because they want to sell me the brake.

There are a lot of us using exhaust brakes. I put on the Jacobs and would not be without one especially if you tow.

Just finished installing a BD exhaust brake. 24 valve does not need heavier springs, just the 12 valve. With the BD brake you can adjust the backpressure to work with lighter springs but then you are not getting full retarding power. I agree, if you are towing anything heavy this is a must option.

Dealer installed BD Brake. Love it. Had an E Brake on my 97 and had to have the heavy springs.



Would not be without one. Use it loaded or empty.

Read the signatures. I think that there are a lot more exhaust brakes out here than you think. It is the most used accessory on my truck!

Just put Jacobs on mine and it is the best thing i did. It sure make less stress on the livestock we pull. Easy to install It sure sounds good in a parking garage(the child coming out in me)

bbutler, I bought my truck new in july of 98. I had the dealer install the bd-exhaust brake a week after I bought the truck. He knew that we would be towing a horse trailer and almost insistead that we buy the brake. I thank him everytime I see him now as it is the most valuable option I have. I believe it should be a factory option! We use it daily.
