I have had the BD brake for a few years now on my '97 with no malfunctions to date... and I don't expect any in the future. This is truly one of BD's products that surpassed their sales pitch. The price was a bit steep compared to others, but unfortunately that is true about most of BD's products. The price would be my only complaint, but I'll once again shell out the money for my 2001 because of the quality of the product.

DBR, did you get rid of your '97... the one I saw at Dyno Days last April? I believe you were the first one in Wa. State with the new (then) HX40 Super Turbo. 400+ BHP if memory serves. As a matter of fact, didn't you win the highest HP award?

I have been on the fence between the Jacobs and the BD. I did the math and with installation, One from a dodge dealer(actually a cummins dealer the dodge dealer could not do it which makes me question the mechanics) and the other at JRE, the BD is only less than a hundred dollars more than the Jacob. Ted Jannetty very strongly suggested the BD from a flow perspective.
I am Now looking for "clear" answer on the warrenty issue. Will a non-jacobs brake void the warrenty?

DBR,

I would guess you'd have to put the break under the passenger feet & seat where the straight 4" is at. The actuator would have to be on the driveline side & angled inward. If the actuator sat right on top, I wonder if it would catch too much dirt that wouldn't clear itself.

I just sent you an e-mail with some dealers that sell for less than list price. Hope this helps.

DBR, that bites about not obtaining the high horsepower award you should have received. In all my dealings over the phone with BD I have only experienced a customer service problem from ONE person... Brian Roth (the owner). I have had EXCELLENT results with Piers and all other BD employees I've talked to though. If I were you I would persue it further. Obviously someone dropped the ball on this one.

Talk to Piers, they don't come any better than him!

BTW, thank you Piers for all the expert help and great customer service you have provided me in the past. #ad

Thumbs up for the Jacobs E brake from cummins, I had it installed in MN cost me $1200. 00 They did an excellent job and Yes I know I could have done it myself but I feel it is worth every penny I spent.

I tow a 33ft 5er and like everyone has said set your speed going dopwn the grades and never touch the brake at all Nor the trailer brakes.
I also leave it on most of the time so the piston shaft is always moving and does not get a chance to rust up and not work whenI need it.

GO FOR IT you will never regret it especially after your first hill #ad

Well, I just bought my boat. A 23' Trophy Pro walkaround w/200 horse Mercury EFI outboard. Pick it up in March. Looking forward to towing it as much as driving it. Might tow it to Florida this summer. Now, how is the Jacobs brake acutated? Sensor from the ECM? Does that mean I don't have to turn it on and off? And is that better/worse than one of the brakes that has a switch under the pedal or mounted on the shifter? I have a 6 speed manual one ton. I love this truck. Had to pull a ford ranger out of a muck puddle last weekend. Big ole Dodge dually motoring through axle deep puddles, through mud up to his truck and then taking it for a drag. It was pretty awesome. Wife was reeeeeal impressed when I got home with a mud covered truck. Yeah, if I had a picture of that face...

I put the US Gear de-celerator on mine. On installation the pressure was set at 30 lbs. and it works as well as one could ask. With 13,000 on a down hill the speed stays what it was at the begining. If 50 it holds 50. The brake is mounted under the truck in front of the muffler I used to have. I love it and can't drive without it now, empty or loaded. I like it under the truck. In case service it is within easy reach.
All work well, but the US Gear is tome the best.
Good Luck
Preston
