Can you "overuse" the standard exhaust break on the 6. 7?

I know the big rigs use these things relentlessly, but... I do not do as much towing as the general population on here, and use my truck as a daily driver, and I do not want to cause any problems later on in the life of this beast. I drive her hard everywhere so as to hopefully prevent any bs with the DPF, but I enjoy using the exhaust break in the rain, and what not, so I wont break loose out on the road when using the 4 wheel discs (an awesome addition).

I just wondered if anyone had any information regarding the suggested use of this nice addition. For informational purposes, I have the 6 speed manual transmission.

In every day driving, no. When towing or in heavy rain most manufactures will recommend against it. I often will use it when driving the motorhome (Cummins) while towing a Jeep in light rain with no adverse reactions. In heavy or sustained rain it could cause the vehicle tires to break traction and cause a hydroplane or skid condition. For daily use, absolutely. It will save brakes and give you some added control under normal driving conditions.

Use it, no adverse affects, As Sarge stated, one added benefit is it will save your service brakes. As far as using it in the rain, The service brakes will "overcome" The exhaust brake. Actually it is good to use it, it keeps the VGT slide ring cleaner and keeps soot from building up on the slide ring.

I second this opinion, as i use it daily for warm up and back and forth yo work, I have had no sooting issues yet.

i use the exhaust brake function every time i drive the truck, having said that,i am careful with it in slippery conditions... . i also use the "tow/haul" every time,as the braking function is much more effective when tow/haul is activated... . my standard procedure after starting the truck is: enable tow/haul and enable exhaust brake function..... works for me!!!... . tom;)
