Just purchased 06 mega-cab auto w/410s. Having dealer installed exhaust brake. Question is how to operate this unit? With an auto can it be left on at all times? Opinions and suggestions greatly appreciated.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

The one I had in my 4500 Chevy, it would work until about 15mph, then it would shut off. It works when you take your foot off the gas. I left it on full time.

We have several trucks and leave the exhaust brakes on all the time unless we're on ice.....

We have learned to touch the throttle to turn off the exhaust brake in town or when slowing and we don't wish it to come on... .

What we have learned to do is do normal slow downs, with the exhaust brake to allow us to make the service brakes last longer... on our 04 3500 that pulls all the time, we got over 160K miles on the stock brake pads using the exhaust brake all the time... and we've learned what gear the transmission needs to be in going down a 5 - 7 % grade to get the exhaust brake to hold the load.....

Hope this has been of some help.....

With my BD I had on the 98, I had to turn it off when parked so the EGT's would drop before shutting off the truck (to cool off turbo). with the Jake hooked to the ECM, once the truck is over 170 deg the Ebrake goes off as soon as you stop moving so you could just leave it on.

I've got the dealer installed turbo brake on my '06 dually 4X4, and it works great. They'll leave the instruction pamphlet in the truck, and it tells when to use it. Keep the rev's up a little, 2500 or so, and you probably won't need the brakes. It does kick off at around 35 mph, but will downshift itself, with an automatic of course, to keep the revs up. We don't use it all the time, as it's a little noisy when it's on. You'll love it when towing! ;) ;)

Had mine installed at the dealership (12,000 miles ago) and have it on all the time. I will never have a diesel truck without one !

The nice thing about an exhaust brake is that it saves your regular brakes big time. I have over 163,000 miles on my truck and still have my factory original brakes with 35% to 40% of the pads left. :D ;)
