I have been reading here about exhaust clamps that wrap around the ends of the pipes?? Does this work with a kit that has one pipe expanded to slide over the other, or do both pipes have to butt up together, at the same size?? I would rather not use the regular type clamps as it makes it hard to get on and off if need be. Oh, and one and a half weeks till the DTT stuff goes in!!

The strap type clamps work with slip-fit pipes. the material is quite soft and conforms to the pipes when tightened. available from Summit racing, truck shops and auto parts stores, about 10 bucks a piece.

Awright!

Thanks, parcher, thats what I wanted to know! I will call the NAPA guy and see if can get them. . Now, I need to figure out which exhaust system I want. Not too many around hear that sound modified, and the one or two that sound good, couldn't catch them to ask about there exhaust system. Sounds like a good idea to stay with 14 ga. whichever one I buy.

Robin..........

Wise choice on transmission upgrades. Have it on both trucks and it was the best thing I did to them.

As far as a good sounding exhaust. I like Rip Rooks system. The Allied muffler sounds really sweet. I had a Jardine on the 01 and swapped out the Muff for the Allied after we put it on the 02.

Whatever system you chose try and mount the Muff as far forward as you can to avoid any possible drone.

Just my 2¢ worth... .....

Might hold off on NAPA and shop around. I picked up some TorcTite pre-formed 4" flat band clamps at a truck parts store (deals with the "Big guys") and I paid less than $10 a piece, NAPA wanted almost twice that for the plain ol' non-pre-formed clamps. Granted the clamps I got are aluminized and NAPA's where stainless. I saw no point in spending almost twice the $ for stainless clamps when my exhaust is standard aluminized tubing.

I got the stainless........

From a big rig shop also. They were $8 and change for the stainless. They had the preformed but I went with the regular because of the placement of some of mine. Had to rework the system through it's various stages. I wish I would have used these first.

Napa here was also double the price.

ok

Good advice!! I need to find a big rig place in Kansas City somewhere. . I didn't realize there were so many outlets for the same things.

Mtngoat, try the Oak Grove Petro truck stop, exit #28 off I-70 on the Mo. side, they have one of the biggest parts selection in the area.

One of my clamps came from Case-IH-New Holland. The muffler shop got some through his jobber house, but we fell one clamp short.

I like the band clamps also but one thing you will have to do in tightening them with an air gun. With a ratchet and socket you just cannot get the comformation you need ,clamp to exhaust tube. It has to be very tight or it will leak. If you use a e-brake it really will be noticeable. A loud hissing sound, that is with a US Gear de-celerator.

Just my observations.
