exhaust cut out

Does anyone have an exhaust cut out kit installed, such as the QTP electric or some other brand? I am thinking this would be an ideal way to have the straight pipe sound, which I really like, and have the option of a muffler when you want it quieter. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks. JH

I have a family member who installed one on his 06 Quad cab and wasn't entirely happy with the results. I believe it's installed before the muffler but is still traveling through the cat and DPF. I've seen pics but not heard the mod myself. He said it wasn't as loud as he thought it would be, but then it's only dumping under the truck and not through a stack. He wished it was a little louder. He purchased a pedal movement switch from dodge and wire it in himself which looks very clean but in my opinion if your not happy with a mod then change it to get the desired result. I believe it's the Race Ready dump. Other than the sound not being exactly what he wanted he says it works great. If I remember correctly I believe the dump comes with a pretty good warranty and it looks very well made. Also they are the only company he's found the makes a 5" electric dump and is sold through JEGS. I'm not sure if this will help at all but sence no one was replying, thought I would. Good Luck!

Thank you. I know these are probably not commonly used, but thought I would give it a try. The biggest problem I can see is that none of the muffler shops in my area (N. Idaho) have a 4" bender. I was visualizing installing the cut out just behind the transfer case and try to snake the pipe around and over to the rear on the drivers' side. I'm not sure where the muffler would fit on the one side, and making up the pipe on the other side without a bender would be a mess. Maybe it's going to stay straight. Thanks again. JH

I have often thought about the exhaust cut out. I didn't know they made them 4". I was thinking that you could order just the drivers side of a dual exhaust system and have a muffler shop figure out the rest of the hook up.

The MBRP website shows a dual exhaust system for "cat back" install. I guess the cut out could be installed in the passenger side, to allow straight pipe, and the muffler left in place on the passenger side of the dual kit? I don't have the converter, so it would be truly straight piped. Is it worth the cost? I'd like to find someone who has done this to tell me if they would do it again.

All you really need is the valve. A good muffler shop can handle the rest. Where can I find just the 4" valve? I have been wanting to do something like this to by-pass the cat at will (already replaced the muffler with what I want).

Search on Google for 4" electric exhaust cut out. Some companies sell the electric gate only. I can't find anyone in my area who can bend 4" pipe. I removed the cat. , and the bigger shops won't work on it because of that.

Best of all, just like rolling up your window at drive through or when ever.



I purchased the Y-pipe and turndown tip to go on after the valve from RRP as well.

How far below the frame rails is the flange on the cut out? Is there room for another length of tail pipe on the new straight through flange? I would like to be able to run the exhaust farther back on the truck. Thanks again.

I just removed the muffler all together and kept the cat and resonator in place. IMHO going through all the bypass trouble wouln't be worth it. The sound without a muffler is really not that much louder than stock. If I were going through the trouble of bypassing, I'd bypass the cat as well.

As I said in my original post, I did remove the cat and the muffler. I really like the way it sounds completely straight through. However there are times when I would like it to be a little quieter, so I would have NO CAT, then the exhaust cutout, muffler on one side and straight on the other. Jerry

I guess I really didn't say I had removed the cat. I said it was straight piped, which, to me, means cat is gone. Sorry.

No worries - I misunderstood that you were totally straight piped. It would be nice to have the option of going loud or "Stealth". It was called "captain's choice" on a boat that I was looking at. Where the exhaust would be run straight through the transom or through the outdrive.

In my opinion you would probably be fine dumping under the truck. Compared to mine a friend who has straight pipe (kept cat no muffler) his truck is louder outside the truck, about the same from the cab.

But if you have a good exhaust guy he could probably get creative and make it work.
