I know that this topic has been beat to death but I need some help. My muffler and resonator fell off my truck about 6 mo. ago and ever since I had the dreaded exhaust drone. I decided to do something about it yesterday so I went to the muffler shop and had them put the resonator back on. I test drove it and it still had the drone. So I decided to have them put the factory muffler back on and after doing that I still have the drone. The only other thing I have done to the truck is put on a Superchips D-Box and installed the boost elbow that came with the box. Let me know if any of you have heard of this I can't stand this noise.

I posted a long time ago about the drone just showing it's ugly head after 30k miles. Just out of the blue one day and I had it:(

After denying that was the noise /vibration I was hearing/feeling I was reading on another board about a guy hose clamping a piece of angle iron onto the exhaust just after the down pipe trying to change the resonance and/or frequency of the exhaust.

I was just about to take the truck to the dealer and complain so I thought I would try this little trick thinking I had nothing to loose.

Let me tell you it did change the pitch and the vibration isn't as bad but the main thing is it does prove that it is the drone I'am experiencing and not a mechanical problem I thought was going on. Also, I believe with a little R&D, meaning using different lengths and positions on the exhaust might have better results because I just clamped the piece of angle iron on the best place I thought that would change things but as yet havn't tried anything different.

Good luck maybe this will help you also. :)

Well, that sounds like a good idea for me to try... my truck has a resonant 'drone' to it around 2000RPM, or 60MPH (same thing). The only thing that saves my sanity is the volume knob on the radio.

I really don't have the time to do the sound proofing with the lead sheet and all that, so I will give the scrap clamping a go.

Thanks!

Lee
