I need to replace the exxhaust system on my truck, 96 LWB, 5spd, 4x4, basically stock except for a #11 plate and GSK.
I see systems on eBay in the $250-$350 range, the big difference from one to the other seems to be:
16ga vs 14ga tubing - I guess this is a longevity thing, but I wonder how much difference it really makes...
4 inch vs 5 inch - how big is the stock system? I understand the need for larger diameter for high flow apps, but what are the tradeoffs, especially in a mild motor? Does exh. port velocity at low RPMs suffer if you go too big?
muffler vs no muffler - I am not interested in incremental HP gains by running no muffler, I would like the truck to be quiet. however, I know that some turbodiesels are extremely quiet even with no muffler at all... Any comments?
Can anyone comment on why I should choose one over the other? Please keep in mind this is a mild engine in a reliablity/camping/towing application, I dont really care about smoke shows or big numbers...
Finally, any sellers to watch out for?
