Advice on CP3 Mod

Smarty Jr. question

Depends on your truck? Fill out your signature and we would be able to give a better answer. The 04. 5 and later 325 hp trucks are reportedly good for 1450 sustained and peaks of 1600. If you are stock, you don't have to worry about the temps at all. I have run stock one stupid hard, overloaded, through the mountains, and never hurt them.

Pretty much what BHolm said. If you are modded, especially if you have advanced injection timing, then the max sustained temp will be lower than a stock truck, at least in my opinion. I have heard of many stock trucks running 1400 deg on a regular basis without issue, but I have heard of a few guys advancing timing too much and trashing pistons/dropping valve seats at the same temps. For myself, I consider anything over 1300 deg continuous on a modded truck to be "no mans land".

All of my trucks '93, '97, and '03 and brother's '01 never went over 1200. But only injectors on '93, plate on '97 and Edge EZ on '01 and Smarty Jr on '03.

I can run past 1200° just going up a grade unloaded if I put my foot into it. Hell, 1350° is doable too.

My stock '06 could easily hit 1350 empty driving up a hill. I towed a big trailer into the wind one day, for hours it sat at 30 psi and 1200 degrees, no problem.

The newer trucks are capable of much higher sustained temps than the second gens. Piston cooling and higher grade metals make this possible. That is why it is important to know what kind of truck he is asking about. Anything over 1200 in a second gen is a different story.

The stock 04. 5+ will hit 1400* plus pretty easily... . and thats a stock motor. . some say thats fine, I still dont like those temps and am more of the 1250* max continuous and bursts up to 1400*, but better be backing out...
