Was wondering what i could do to lower my egt's? when I'm towing my 15k fiver average is around 1000* on flat ground. Smarty jr is set on #2. Have afe intake, and blade runner, also cut out the cat and changed the muffler. was thinking about a water meth. kit. Any suggestions would be great.

water would be a good investment. I would hold off until we release the new junior revolution software.

It will be about a week out

1000F on the flats pulling a 15k trailer is not that bad. 15K is a heavy load for our trucks, in addition to the wind resistance.

At what RPM is this temp at? lower RPMs will increase the EGTS because you are fueling quite heavily and not pumping as much "air" thru the engine.

If you still have your stock airbox, you may want to consider the PSM Buick cold air kit ... Performance Systems Manufacturing, LLC

This mod really helped my truck. Also, if you get the DPP cool hose and the aFe PG7 stock filter replacement, you will get great power gains and EGT reductions along with Smarty Sr/Jr. I have pics of these setups in my photo gallery. I am very happy with these vs. the Stage I or II aFe.

I'm not a big fan of the aFe Bladerunner. The ATS intake manifold or the CFM+ manifold perform ALOT better and will also help with your EGTs.

Good luck.

1000 isn't that bad. in stock format the truck sees alot higher egts than what you will see with you setup. I have towed some things that have had me over 1000 for hours on end and the truck ran better after that than it did before. I am starting to think that many of us don't work these motors anywhere near what they need to run right in the long run. IF we baby them and never get the egts up and run the snot out of them it hurts them especially the CR motor with our pain in the rear injectors. I say let it run and burn that carbon out instead of letting it build up on your injectors and causing problems.

Gotta agree with the other two, thats not a bad EGT for what you are doing and its definitely not out of the range the engine is built for. I also have a much better sounding and smoother running truck when I drive the snot out of it and keep the EGT's up there for several hours. Keeps the carbon off the tips form the grocery getting. :-laf

The 600 series engines are rated to 1550 degrees per Cummins testing on them so drive and enjoy. :)

Wow! And I was worried because I ran mine up to about 1350 this past summer for about 3 minutes climbing Homestake Pass in MT passing Powerstrokes, Duramaxs, and cars alike. No lie. ran up the pass at 72 MPH at a GCWR of 17,080. She never missed a beat. just scared the daylights out me watching that EGT sit at 1350 for so long.

1350 is asking for it, sometimes 24-valves melt down at 1250.

EMcAlister how fast are you towing and in what gear? Give some details on your truck (axle ratio, tire size etc. )

Towing @ 60mph. Gear ratio is 3:73. Tire size is 295/70/17. I can get them to run up real quick if there is any type of grade. I notice also thatafter a good long tow the truck seems to run smoother and better.

depending on when it turns on you'll need a BIG tank!;) What do you see for temps in the hills? is the probe pre/post turbo?

If I lug it on any type of grade in od I can get to 1350 quick. When I down shift into 3rd egt's run about 1100 or so. The probe is pre turbo.

Sounds pretty normal for the weight. Try altering your driving so you downshift BEFORE it starts to lug, its harder to cool once the EGTs start going up. If you pull the hills from the start @ 2k+ RPMs I think you'll have better luck. ;)

Automatics blow when it comes to towing at speeds around 55-60 mph, thanks to the lousy gearing. That's where you're either lugging it or winding it up. I get worse mileage at that speed than 65 pulling my TT (although it's lighter than yours).
