I have a 2001 that is stock. I was wondering how it would sound if I simply took off the muffler and catylitic converter and put straight pieces of pipe in there? Also what is the resonator and what does it do? How would my truck sound if that is all I did?

There should'nt be a cat on your truck, just a resonater. At any rate if you take them both off it WILL GET LOUD. I enjoy my 5" straight exhaust but a lot people don't ike the drone it presents inside the cab. If you don't hack it up too bad when you take it apart, you can always put it back together.

I have a 02. Took off the muffler and put in a piece of straight pipe. I left the resonator on. Sounds louder, but not too loud. Turbo also spools faster.

When i put my stacka on i took off the muffler and left every thing else alone. Sounded good but got dron around 1800rpm. Since then I have put on 4" straight pipe dosnt seem to have as much drone and sounds awsome.

You've got a resonator and a mufler. When I did mine, I removed both. After my first pull, the resonator went back on. I couldn't take the 100DB+ drone in the cab. After the re-installment of the res. I didn't notice any increase in EGT's or slower turbo spool up. In cab drone is almost gone and it still sounds nasty outside. Leave the res. on unless you're deaf!!

Why mess with it if you are low on cash? I put my 4" Jardine system on before I did the Edge EZ at 50,000 miles. There was no increase in power, that I could notice, and the EGT stayed the same. The only thing I gained was a good sounding "Louder" exaust system. If your truck is stock, the stock exhaust will serve you just fine. ?? Unless you like noise.

If you straight pipe it they will. I've heard a few stock systems with the muffler and resonater removed and they sound "raspy" to me. A mufflered system sounds much nicer. But that's just my opinion. That and . 25 will might get you a cup of coffee.
