It craked right in the middle from left to right, between cylinders 3 & 4 on my 1998. 5 24v 2500.

I noticed this with 100,401 miles on the truck so I think the warranty is up.

Where can I get it Fixed or get a new one. If I have to get a new one, is it best to go with Dodge or is there a better after market one(Eldelbrook, Banks) or something?

Is it a do-it-yourself job to replace one?

TIA

Bob

Check out the latest issue of TDR the Earth Roamer has an article about his cracked exhaust. He also has an internet site earthroamer.com...

Does anyone know if the ATS manifold is custom job? Could this be from a different Cummins motor? I heard the larger Cummins came with 3 piece manifolds. Just wondering... .

ATS Manifold

fj40charles... . The ATS 3-pc maifold is an aftermarket replacement... It is made in Utah. . They have one for 12v and 24v. It is superior in quality and strength. . ,I have never heard of anyone cracking one. Depending on vendor, they range between $425-499 . They come with a plug for tapping for a pyro...

I replaced my stock manifold, before it broke... A must for better support for bigger turbo's etc. No measurable performance gain, however, a piece of mind of not having to worry about your exhaust manifold again. :D

Just visited my friendly Cummins shop today and they do not have a replacement manifold better/different than the stock one piece. Mine has recently cracked and will be replaced by an ATS 3 piece - a very nice piece indeed!

The ATS manifold used to be drilled and tapped for a thermocouple, but they don't come that way anymore. You will have to drill and tap it. I would suggest having the ATS manifold ceramic coated if you had the time. They look pretty good that way.

Here's a pic - #ad

Just out of curiosity. About a year ago, I almost purchased one of the ATS 3 Piece manifolds, but was pursuaded not to.

I was told by several people that this manifold was bigger then the stock one and that it flowed too much air for a truck that was not heavily bombed. Is this true? It seems like tons of people have them.

What benefits could a mindly bombed truck get from one of these manifolds besides looks?

Kev... The ATS is a very high quality piece, and that was my main motivation to get one. Seems like too many complain about the cracking issue. I had mine ceramic coated a 2000 degree satin black, inside and out. (thanks, John) My turbo cool down time is a little longer due to more heat retention.

Just for comparison, my dealer quoted me $441. 00 OEM replacement.

In the latest TDR mag, Joe Donnelly mentioned ~10-15% better flow if the ATS was "mildly ported". IMO, no performance gains.

Piers can take care of you, including the ceramic coating.
