IIRC it is due to expansion and contraction due to heat. Hence the aftermarket 3pc manifolds while they are 3pcs they seal well and the joints allow for the expansion and contraction. While you may be able to weld it back up to fix the leak you may have a heck of a time getting it back on as from what I remember the manifold mounting ears tend to distort as well. I am sure not in all cases but I have read that on the forums here. The best bet may be to get one of the 3pc units. I know ATS makes one and there are others and perhaps better ones but cant recall other names at the moment.
ATS (Never buy purple), BD, Source Automotive... . Shop around, you'll find one. Probably all made by the same plant with different casting stamps for the brand.
