exhaust manifold question

has anybody thought about putting a second gen manifold on a third gen wouldn't this solve the last two cylinders from running hotter due the factory manifold design i;m going to put a killer b2 on this coming weekend and have a second gen manifold already on hand i appreciate any comments

It would work well. You'd need a second gen style downpipe (HX40 style for the Killer B2) and possibly a modification to the oil feed line as well as drain but it could be done. You'd have to change the compressed air piping to the intercooler as well.

If you are going to that much work why not just put on a ATS 2 pice Manifold they solve the problem

Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm looking for ideas and opinions on the ATS manifold for my '03. Is it as good a product as advertised? Do you know of a good supplier, with good prices? Are you happy with yours? and finally, any tips for a person about to install one?

The ATS is a great product that does work as advertised. I wouldn't bother with it unless you were doing a turbo upgrade of some kind but if you do, it's a must. Cylinders 4 & 5 are really congested in the stocker.



The install is pretty straight forward. There is a heater hose bracket in the back, on one of the bolts that will give you trouble. Some guys have said they pryed it out of the way. I cut mine, did the install, wiggled things around and decided not to weld it back up. No problems after 12k miles. Twins are next, I'll probably secure it somehow then. Best of luck.

Does that mean it isn't worth the investment for a basically stock engine? Will there be no noticable performance increase. I will be adding upgrades all along.

I doubt you'll see a gain with the manifold alone. I added mine with the new turbo because it was convienient (already had everything torn apart) so I can't comment for sure. I suspect it would be like the gains an intake company would advertise, yes it will provide gain but not much to a basically stock truck. If your truck needs to flow more air it will help you more. Think of it as 10-15 hp for $400. Will you gain, yes. Is it worth the money, probably not unless you need it.

Okay. I still like the idea of replacing the manifold given that I have an aftermarket air intake, and full 4 inch exhaust. I will also most likely add a more aggressive box after I get the gauges installed.

I heard (no experience yet myself) that the ATS helps equalize the drive pressure on the turbo since you dont have 4 cylinders feeding one side and two feed the other. I was told this would help a stock turbo live longer. I'm in the process of gather parts to swap manifold, turbo, adding exhuast brake and changing over to 4". Turbo (B1-04) and Turbo Mount Pac-Brake are here, just need the ATS manifold and I'll be swapping it all out, hopefully a "bolt up" deal!!
