Hi All,

I just recieved a HTT manifold to replace the current one (cracked in 3 different places). Recently there was a discussion onwhat type of bolts to use when replacing the exhaust manifold (I did a search, but can not find the thread). The thread discussed using some disk springs and some special bolts. Does anyone out there have a suggestion?

I also want to thank SLJolley. His price and service was great! :D

Thanks All.

?????

Was that cracked one your stock or another HTT manifold? I just ordered mine and will be installing it when i get home. I thought you would just use the stock bolts . Now im curious... Jeremy

Cowboydually,

The old one was the stock piece of crap. The HTT was almost the same price as the replacement from Dodge, and it appears to be of much better quality. From what I gather in the threads the HTT and the ATS manifolds seem to have a good reputation.

Personally, I would not re-use bolts in any application that sees a lot of thermal cycling. I am not a metallurgist by any means, but I have seen what thermal cycling can do to metal (fatigue, embrittlement... ). Purchasing new hardware in this case is very cheap insurance against the bolts breaking.

Someone here, had a specific manufacturers bolt, or a specific bolt grade and made a good argument for it. They also made a good argument for using the disk springs to help prevent bolt streching. My only concern with it would be at the temperatures that the manifold sees, the springs may become too hot and lose their spring temper.

Same reason i went with HTT, heard alot of good comments about them. Yea your right, im sure that the whole effect of the heating and cooling cycle could make things a little weak. Hopefully someone pops their head in here and can lead in the right direction!... Jeremy

JFaries,

Already have the manifold, just need to find the right bolts to put it on. Thanks for the thread though. Good reading.
